Able Skills is offering you the opportunity to spend 10 days with us, undergoing intensive and fast paced, hands on training covering both internal and external plastering.

The Plastering Training Centre at Able Skills has been designed with the intention of being able to teach every aspect of plastering and rendering under one roof. We have designated areas for beginners, areas for intermediate and advanced students, areas for qualification students and areas to learn external plastering.

The layout of our Plastering Centre is intended to move you smoothly through various stages and areas of plastering if progression is your choice.

In this designated 10 days, we intend to teach you the basics of plastering and then move you to a more advanced level which will also benefit you in building on your speed and mastering your plastering technique.

This plastering course is suited to those of you looking to enter the plastering industry but equally, is well suited to anyone who is looking to undertake plastering projects at home.

During our 10 day plastering course we will cover every aspect of Plastering that we can and feel confident that after spending that amount of time with us, you will be ready to tackle everyday plastering requirements. Should you be looking to do a DIY project or for a change in career, we feel confident that any of the plastering courses we offer will suit your needs.

Throughout the 10 days of plastering training, we will supply all tools and materials to ensure that you have a very good understanding on how and when to use:

Able Skills 10 Day Plastering Course

To start, the plastering course will provide you with the skills to plasterboard areas and tape standard and internal joints, to cut and fix angle beads around windows and reveals and to prepare surfaces for decorating using bonding plaster and finishing plaster.

We will explain and demonstrate all plastering tools, give full guidance on mixing plastering materials and fully explain the importance of adhering to health and safety regulations.

As you move through this 10 day plastering course, you will be skimming walls and ceilings to a competent level, repairing damaged plastered areas, learning internal angle trowel techniques and plastering around wall sockets and ceiling roses.

You will also learn how to line walls with plasterboard using the 'dot and dab' method and you will finish the 10 days learning rendering which will include applying a scratch coat and applying a top coat, enabling you to achieve a smooth finish.

At the start of this plastering course, you will be presented with a folder containing a day by day schedule of the different stages you will be covering throughout the period of your plastering training. In addition, you will also be provided with various different plastering notes as well as useful and relevant paper work for when you undertake plastering tasks at home or at work.

Course Schedule

On week 1 - the Introductory Course you will cover

Day 1:

Health & Safety induction – Explanation of tools and materials – Cut & attach plasterboard to ceiling and side walls – Tape all ceiling joints – Skim ceiling

Day 2:
Tape all wall joints – Cut and set skim beads – Skim to side panels of pier – Bond the entire pier

Day 3:
Skim the entire pier – Board and skim back wall

Day 4:
PVA and re-skim ceiling – Rendering: Apply a scratch coat of render -  Apply a top coat of render

Day 5:
PVA and re-skim back wall - Rub up render to a plain face finish

On week 2 – the Advanced Course you will cover

Day 1:
Plasterboard ceilings & walls - Tape all joints - Skim whole ceiling

Day 2:
Cut and tack skim beads - Skim whole pier - Skim 2 plain panels and ceiling

Day 3:
Patch repairs to ceiling and wall - Board back wall - Skim back wall & side panels using internal angle trowel (twitcher)

Day 4:
Rendering: Cut and attach bellcast and angle beads to wall - Apply scratch coat and key - Apply top coat render - Rule off with feather edge

Day 5:
Cut and attach board to walls using Dot & Dab method - Cut around sockets and switches - Rub up rendered wall to a plain face finish creating features - Demonstration of Floor Screeding

During this 10 days of Plastering training, all tools and materials will be supplied for your use. We will also explain and demonstrate all the different materials used for different surfaces.

Throughout the practical plastering training, you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.

This programme of combined Introductory and Advanced Plastering is available using weekend training – 4 weekends in total – The content is adjusted slightly to reflect the reduced time.
