Commercial Gas Training & Assessment

At Able Skills, we have 3 dedicated Gas Training/Assessment Centres working with the approval of CITB.

We have a Commercial Gas Training and Gas Assessment Centre and two Domestic Gas Centres, enabling existing gas engineers working in either area of the Gas industry to receive training and assessment but equally making it possible for those looking to take their first steps towards becoming gas engineers the choice of just Domestic or Domestic and Commercial.

At Able Skills we have invested in our staff to ensure that individually, they are qualified and capable of delivering any gas package we put together whether it is Domestic or Commercial.

We are continually looking to improve our services to remain amongst the best training establishments in the Country and we are very proud of the team of gas trainers and assessors we have here.

Our instructors will provide guidance, support and assistance in a realistic environment to build confidence and competence to help you work safely within the Commercial Gas industry.

You can meet the staff at Able Skills by visiting our staff page or why not pay them a visit by dropping in to Able Skills; we are open 7 days every week and we would be quite happy to show you around and explain the course options and variations available.

15 Day Commercial Gas Safety Training and Assessment

We are in a position to be able to provide everyone with the best possible opportunity of achieving their goals which is why we are able to provide this extensive programme of training and assessment at an incredibly reasonable price.

Able Skills has devised a training and assessment programme primarily aimed at those of you who are looking to move into the Commercial gas industry from Domestic, those of you who already hold CCN1 – Domestic Core Gas Safety.

This 15 day training and assessment programme has been devised in order to provide operatives with the opportunity to be industry ready and has been put together to provide individuals with the opportunity to achieve certification for the most common category of appliances and pipework.

The 10 days of initial training will cover every aspect of commercial gas to ensure that operatives have the knowledge to undertake formal ACS assessments in 5 days to achieve:

o    CODNCO1
o    ICPN1
o    TPCP1A
o    CIGA1
o    CORT1
o    CDGA1

Although this training programme has been designed for those looking to change over from Domestic to Commercial, this is also a very good package for those of you already working within the industry who may require the comfort of an extended training programme prior to commencing the assessments. If you fall within this category, COCN1 will replace CODNCO1

Able Skills has approval to provide various appliance and pipework assessments and we would be happy to quote you for a package which you feel may be more appropriate.

Commercial Gas Safety Assessment

These 5 days will see you undertake no less than 6 assessments for various appliances and pipework which will confirm your ability to work within the Commercial Gas Industry. We have chosen these particular assessments as they fall within the most common areas of work which you may be required to undertake.

1. CODNCO1 - Change over Core Gas Safety - Domestic to Commercial

This gas safety change over assessment is designed for those operatives that hold core domestic gas safety (CCN1) to test their gas safety competence in Core Commercial gas work, only in areas where specific differences occur, by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

This gas safety assessment comprises of:-

•    Characteristics of Combustion and the Use of Flue Analysis Equipment
•    Commercial Ventilation Requirements
•    Checking and Setting Commercial Appliance Burner Pressures
•    Identification of Unsafe Situations in Commercial premises
•    The Operation of and Positioning of Emergency Isolation Controls and Valves
•    Commercial Flueing Standards
•    Re-establish Existing Gas Supply and Relight Commercial Appliances
•    The Operation and Checking of Appliance Gas Safety Devices and Controls

2. ICPN1 - First Fix Pipe Installations

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative, by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment in the first fixing of commercial installation pipework, steel, copper and polythene and fittings above 28 mm (1”) up to 150 mm (6”) bore.

Pre-requisite:

•    Candidates must hold a Certificate of Competence in Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1.

3. TPCP1A - Testing and Direct Purging of Small Low Pressure Commercial Gas Installations

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment in the work of testing and direct purging of pipework (or sections of pipework) downstream of a primary meter control valve having:-

•    A volume of not exceeding 1m3 including any meter and any allowance for fittings.
•    An operating pressure not exceeding 21 mbar (nominal) at the outlet of the primary meter regulator
•    A diameter not exceeding 150 mm
•    The operating pressure at the inlet of the primary meter regulator does not exceed 75 mbar

This assessment will not assess testing for soundness and direct purging outside the range listed above and it may be preferable for operatives to instead undertake category TPCP1 below.

Pre-requisite:

•    Candidates must hold a Certificate of Competence in Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1.

4. CIGA1 - Commission, service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Indirect Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment
