Photovoltaic Courses
Able Skills has been delivering C&G 2372 Solar PV for quite some time now but it isn’t suitable for everyone with it’s stringent pre-requisites and 7 day training requirement.

This NICEIC accredited, 3 day Solar PV training and assessment course is designed to provide experienced electricians with the necessary skills for basic design, installation, commission and service of Solar PV systems and deliver a certificate of competence to individuals who will self certify installations through Government scheme operators.
This NICEIC PV course will cover the majority of small scale Solar Photovoltaic systems currently installed within the UK. It will also cover information required to design, install, commission, service and fault find.
Solar PV cells produce electricity directly from sunlight and provide an opportunity to drive the uptake of renewable and low carbon energy. Solar PV forms a key technology set within the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), which offers government grants for the installation of Microgeneration based products and systems.
The introduction of Feed in Tariffs (FITs), the government backed support measure which has been designed to increase the uptake of Microgeneration and help deliver the UK’s 2020 renewable energy targets.
FITs provide those generating renewable energy with 20 year – or 25 years for Solar PV – guaranteed per unit support payments (p/kWh) for electricity generation.
NICEIC Solar Photovoltaic Pre-Requisites
Only a registered full scope electrician can make the final grid connections and testing before the system goes live.
This course will not cover areas that form part of the main prerequisites so it is essential that candidates who wish to attend this course hold:
- City and Guilds 2382-10 or City and Guilds 2382-20 (17th edition wiring regulations)
- Accredited Full/Defined Scope qualification and registered with a conforming body
A requirement for the certification of this course is that delegates will be required to attend a separate 1 day NICEIC certification Health and Safety awareness course covering CoSHH, Working at Heights and Manual Handling - this can be omitted if the delegate already holds an Iosh/Nebosh/Pasma certificate.
To ensure that you have met the pre-requisites, Able Skills provide the required 1 day NICEIC accredited Health & Safety training course covering the following
- CoSHH
- Working at Heights
- Manual Handling
In addition, City and Guilds 2392-10 Fundamental Inspection &Testing or City and Guilds 2391-10 Periodic Inspection & Testing would be very beneficial but not essential.

- Other considerations including Lightning Protection and Solar PV Panel Maintenance
- Grid Tie Inverters
- DC/AC Supplies and the Hazards
- Appropriate Standards: G83/BS7671:2008
- Solar PV System Testing including AC/DC Testing
- Final Commissioning and System handover
We recommend that delegates who are attending this course purchase a copy of the Planning and Installing Photovoltaic Systems: A Guide for Installers, Architects and Engineers (2nd Edition)
Training for NICEIC Solar PV eligibility
If you have an interest in installing photovoltaic systems but you cannot meet the entry requirements, Able Skills can offer training for Part P (Full scope), C&G 2382 17th Edition, C&G 2392 Fundamental Inspection & Testing and C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing.
Training for C&G Solar PV eligibility
If you would prefer to look towards the commercial / industrial electrical industry, we also provide training and assessment for C&G 2330 at levels 2 and 3 as well as site assessment for C&G 2356 – NVQ level 3. These qualifications, accompanied by C&G 2382 and C&G 2392 or 2391 will enable you to undertake the City & Guilds Solar Photovoltaic course: C&G 2372.
NICEIC Solar PV Course Fees are £495.00 (inc vat)
NICEIC Health & Safety Course Fees are £150.00 (inc vat)
Course Duration: 3 or 4 Days dependant on H&S requirements
