Armed Forces Training from Able Skills

Able Skills offers training in:
Able Skills is an approved ELCAS provider which ensures that we can offer training to all service personnel, both those in and out of service, as long as they are still eligible to use their Enhanced Learning Credits.
The training provided by Able Skills varies from DIY based training to level 3 qualifications which ensure that there is something here to suit everybody.
Those of you who are interested in pursuing a career in the lucrative building trade can undertake specialised training in a core subject, leading to City & Guilds, CITB or CAA Certification. We can train you to qualification standards in Tiling, Plastering, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing, Gas, Painting & Decorating or Electrical Installation and subject to certain criteria; you may be able to access your ELC entitlement.
Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC)
The Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC) provides financial support to eligible Service personnel who wish to enhance their educational or vocational achievements at Level 3 or above.
ELC Key Points
It is now permissible for Service Leavers to use their Individual Resettlement Training Cost (IRTC) grant in connection with Enhanced Learning Credit (ELC) to pay for the same higher level qualification courses starting on or after 1 September 2008.
Remember you must plan ahead - allow sufficient time, at least five weeks, between submitting your claim and starting your course.
Points to note when considering the use of ELCs.
- Retrospective ELC claims are not permitted. Claim forms must be received by ELCAS at least 15 clear working days prior to the course start date.
- Before making a second or third claim you must return a Claim Evaluation Form to ELCAS and supply proof of completion to your Education Staff for all previous learning activities.
- It is important that you do not set up a loan/credit agreement for the full amount under any circumstances.
- You must not pay any money to the Provider or book the course before you receive your Claim Authorisation Note. This also applies to potential new providers awaiting "approved" status to join the ELCAS list.
- You must make a personal contribution of at least 20% towards the total course cost.
- Just because an organisation is listed as an Approved Provider it does not mean that all of their courses are of the required level.
- You are reminded that ELC funding is only available for pursuit of higher level learning i.e. for courses that result in a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3 or above on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (England and Wales), a Level 6 or above on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) or, if pursued overseas, an approved international equivalent qualification.
At each stage of the process you must consult both the DIN and your Education Staff to ensure that both you and your chosen learning activity are eligible for ELC support.
http://www.enhancedlearningcredits.com/mssql/index.html will provide guidance on the procedures you are required to undertake in order to secure training and finance.
Some of our staff are ex-servicemen who have also taught within the services, all staff are Assessors and Internal verifiers and this ensures that the standard of training provided is second to none

“We don’t pretend to have ex servicemen working for us – we really do!” Jim Singleton – Royal Engineers – Plumbing Tutor/Assessor/ Internal Verifier”
