BPEC Solar Hot Water Systems Course

The solar market in the UK continues to grow year on year, however the UK is still dramatically short of European targets set. This can only be achieved with the up-skilling of more Solar Thermal Engineers / Installers.

At Able Skills, we are providing you with an opportunity to access the Solar Thermal market by undertaking a short course accredited by BPEC.

This BPEC certificate provides the installer with the confidence and practical knowledge to become a qualified solar installer. This is also recognised towards your MCS approval.  This course was compiled by BPEC and the Solar Trade Association of which Able Skills are members.

The course builds upon existing knowledge and covers the majority of solar thermal applications such as pressurised and drain back systems. We also have rigs which are plumbed in to combi boilers so you get to understand how this technology can be used across a range of applications.

Once you have attended this course you will have practical experience of fitting panels, commissioning and also fault finding on all type of systems.

Pre-requisites for the course include:

•    Unvented Hot Water Systems Certificate
•    A number of years plumbing experience and/or Level 2 plumbing qualification

Unvented Hot Water Systems Certificate

The course has been produced to enable plumbing and heating engineers to confirm their competence in unvented hot water storage systems including the installation and safety requirements of all Unvented Hot Water Systems up to 500 litres capacity and to meet Building Regulations (G3).

Able Skills provides training and assessment for City & Guilds 6129 levels 2 and 3 and City & Guilds 6089 level 2 (NVQ)

This BPEC accredited course is delivered in Able Skills Renewable Technologies Centre using our drain back and pressurised systems. The rigs are fitted to a full roof which allows the delegate to get hands on experience with realistic installation conditions.

•    Managing the customer
•    Practical Installation of panels

The course is a nice balance between presentation delivery and hands on practical tasks, such as fitting the panel and commissioning the system, filling and flushing. There is an assessment on the final day to ensure competence.
