Able Skills has been an established and reputable CAA (Construction Awards Alliance) approved training centre for some time now. We previously delivered Intermediate Construction Awards which have been replaced by Construction Diplomas and we are accredited to deliver these.
We will provide training, assessment and exams in order for you to obtain a Level 2 Construction Diploma in Site Carpentry and additionally, we can provide on site assessment for National Vocational Qualifications.
Delivery of this particular Carpentry Diploma is a mixture of both theory and practical training and assessment and there are several Carpentry units which need to be completed to achieve the Carpentry Diploma.
You will need to record and demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of each Carpentry unit as well as demonstrating your practical Carpentry skills. As such, any training centre delivering this Carpentry award will need an abundance of space and both training and assessment areas for all of the Carpentry units.
We have 5000 sq ft in which to teach you Carpentry, classrooms for studying and computer suites for your online Carpentry exam.
Our dedicated Carpentry Centre is fully operational and equipped with up to date Carpentry equipment, large training areas and large Assessment areas. We have devised our Training Centre to fit in with the reality requirements of the new Carpentry Diploma.
The Carpentry Diploma has been introduced to ensure that any candidate is provided with as much knowledge of Carpentry and Joinery as is possible.
Any candidate completing a Carpentry Diploma will find themselves entirely ready for building site employment, not just practically but also with essential knowledge relating to carrying out safe working practices, communicating with others, knowledge of building methods and construction technology.
All of the staff who will be delivering this Carpentry training are qualified to both City & Guilds and CAA requirements.
They are all qualified to teach, assess and verify each aspect of the Carpentry Diploma, which ensures that every stage you go through is done here, on site at Able Skills, guaranteeing consistency to help you achieve your goal.
Individually, each Carpentry member of staff has a vast array of knowledge from having previously spent years working within the Carpentry industry. Please visit our staff page to see our Carpentry Instructors
This Carpentry course is suitable for people who are not at this moment working in the Carpentry industry and who would like to obtain the required Carpentry qualification to work towards becoming a professional Carpenter.
An important feature of the Carpentry Diploma is that it provides a progression route towards achieving a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Site Carpentry.
All Carpentry Diploma units are related to their equivalent Carpentry NVQ units and we will advise you what extra assessments are required to gain the related Carpentry NVQ unit once you are working within the Carpentry industry.

This CAA Carpentry Diploma will require 6 weeks of practical training and assessment. Completion of this Carpentry Diploma will be determined by all of the following:
• Achievement of each Carpentry unit by internal testing undertaken by your instructor. Each knowledge unit also has a mandatory series of Carpentry questions and answers produced by CAA and managed by your instructor.
• Synoptic practical Carpentry assignment set by CAA and controlled by your instructor. Successful completion of the assignment will be needed before the Carpentry qualification can be completed.
• Online test covering the core Carpentry units and the occupational units must be passed to achieve the Carpentry qualification. The test will be an independent test of knowledge and understanding.
As you can see from the above, completion of this Carpentry Diploma requires candidates to demonstrate knowledge and competence on both a practical and theory level and therefore to confirm this, candidates are required to record their understanding of the subject in detail.
This Carpentry course will require you to undertake some research in order for you to record your understanding of carpentry and related aspects but to help you with this we have put together a comprehensive carpentry manual which will cover all of the knowledge units required to fully achieve this Carpentry award.
This Carpentry manual, along with practical Carpentry training, demonstrations, ongoing guidance and advice will all help when you undertake your unit tests, final practical Carpentry assessment and On-Line exam.

The Construction Awards Alliance Level 2 Site Carpentry Diploma is designed to develop your skills and knowledge, enabling you to work in the Carpentry industry.
The Carpentry Diploma has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the Carpentry assessment is based on you showing what you can do as an individual through the completion of all the requirements of the Carpentry qualification.
All the Carpentry units of training must be completed by a candidate. All outcomes must be achieved during the Carpentry training programme. Evidence from any previous site based assessment will not be accepted as contributing towards this Diploma.
Throughout your training time at Able Skills, we will cover all areas of Carpentry. Health & Safety will be integral to all of the Carpentry units so throughout your training time we will follow recognised working procedures and safe working practices.
You will be working with the correct tools for the job and using the required personal protective equipment. All finished work will be to required Carpentry industry standards and within accepted tolerances.
The working areas within the Carpentry Centre will simulate reality to prepare you for all eventualities once you enter into the Carpentry industry.
This is a hands-on, practical Carpentry course, it is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools, materials and essential PPE are provided throughout your training time at Able Skills.
