They are all qualified to teach, assess and verify each aspect of the course which ensures that every stage you go through is done here, on site at Able Skills, guaranteeing consistency to help you achieve your goal. Individually, each Carpentry member of staff has a vast array of knowledge from having previously spent years working within the Carpentry industry.
Intermediate Construction Award (ICA) Site Carpentry
This course is suitable for people who are not at this moment working in the Carpentry industry and who would like to obtain the required qualification to work towards becoming a professional Site Carpenter.
All ICA units are related to their equivalent NVQ unit, and we will advise you what extra assessments are required to gain the related NVQ unit once you are working within the Carpentry industry.
To obtain the ICA in full, you must also pass an independent Health and Safety test which will take place at your nearest D.S.A. theory test centre.
Able Skills has a dedicated Health and Safety Advisor on site who will provide you with all the training necessary to assist you with this test.
Additionally, you will also sit a separate job knowledge test; this test is set and marked by City & Guilds.
The Units you must complete to achieve this award are:
- ICA 100 Store materials & equipment
- ICA 101 Erect & dismantle basic working platforms
- ICA 102 Work efficiently
- ICA 107 First fixing before plasterwork
- ICA 108 Second fixing after plasterwork
- ICA 109 Carcassing for floors and roofs
- ICA 110 Use portable power tools

Throughout your training time at Able Skills, we will cover all areas of Carpentry. Health & Safety will be integral to all of the carpentry units so throughout your training time we will follow recognised working procedures and safe working practices. You will be working with the correct tools for the job and using the required personal protective equipment. All finished work will be to required industry standards and within accepted tolerances.
The working areas within the Carpentry training Centre will simulate reality to prepare you for all eventualities once you enter into the carpentry industry.
Additionally, Able Skills can provide suitable and affordable local accommodation upon request to cater for those of you who are interested in gaining this qualification but for whom commuting is not an option.
If you are still unsure if Carpentry is the career of your choice, why not try our 5 day Intensive course first. This will help you decide if you want to progress to a qualification and a career as a carpenter.
This is a hands-on, practical course, it is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials are provided throughout your training time at Able Skills.
