
Level 3 2395-01 - Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
NEW! This City & Guilds qualification will replace an element which is currently part of the City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing and will prepare candidates for the periodic inspection of electrical installation work.
This course is aimed at experienced electricians who wish to gain further knowledge and skills in the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations and practising electricians who need refresher training.
It is not aimed at people with limited electrical qualifications or limited experience of inspection and testing.
The current City & Guilds 2391-10 - Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Verification of Electrical Installations has been replaced and divided into two qualifications:
• 2394-01 - Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations
The new C&G 2394 covers inspection and testing of new work carried out in electrical installations, covering both single and three phase supplies.
• 2395-01 - Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
The new C&G 2395 is suited to anyone involved in the periodic inspection and testing of existing installations to ensure they remain safe and effective.

The assessment criteria are carried out over three units:
• Unit 301: Principles, practices and legislation for the periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations (Online Exam)
• Unit 302: Principles, practices and legislation for the periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations (Written Exam)
• Unit 303: Principles, practices and legislation for the periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations (Practical Assignment)
This qualification allows progression to:
• Level 3 Condition Report Periodic Inspection and certification of Electrical Installations (2395-01)
• Level 4 Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396)
• ILM Management and Leadership qualifications

City & Guilds 2395 Course Content:
This 2395 course will teach you the principles, practices and legislation for periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations in accordance with statutory and non-statutory regulations and requirements.
This qualification demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you need, such as:
• Appropriate legislation
• Testing installations
• Issuing safety certificates.
Areas covered include:
• Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
• Requirements for inspecting, testing and recording the condition of electrical installations
• Requirements for completing the periodic inspection of electrical installations
• The differences between periodic inspection and initial verification
• Requirements for the safe testing of electrical installations which have been placed in service
• Requirements for testing before circuits are energised
• Requirements for testing energised installations
• Understand and interpret test results
• Requirements for the completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
• How to confirm safety of system and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
• How to carry out inspection of electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
• How to test electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
• How to produce a condition report with recording observations and classifications

Following this training course, you will undertake a closed book, 1½ hour written exam on a pre-designated date which is then externally marked. The exam dates for this qualification are set by City & Guilds and we aim to provide this training to you as close to the exam date as is possible.
