City & Guilds 2399 – Water Harvesting & Re-use Systems

City & Guilds 2399 - Water Harvesting & Re-use Systems

2399-42 - Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Water Harvesting and Re-use Systems

Able Skills has gradually been implementing training courses which will fall in line with the Governments drive on protecting and enhancing the environment and tackling climate change and we are now at the stage where we have been able to open a dedicated Renewable Technology training centre.

About Water Harvesting and Re-use Systems

Rainwater Harvesting systems are designed to collect and distribute rainwater throughout your home for use in things such as toilet flushing, washing machines and outside use.

Domestic systems typically enable the user to reduce their main water usage by up to 50% whilst commercial systems stand to save even more due to the typically large roof size and high demand for non-potable water.

Grey water systems are designed to distribute water that was previously supplied as ‘wholesome water' but which has been used in washbasins, baths and showers. This water is stored in a tank where a distribution system takes it, by a pump or gravity, to toilets and/or garden taps. A mains fed back-up system will be necessary for times when supply of grey water does not meet demand.

At Able Skills, we are providing you with an opportunity to access the Water Harvesting/Re-use market by undertaking this City & Guilds accredited course.

This Water Harvesting/Re-use course will provide the installer with the confidence and practical knowledge to become a qualified installer. This is also recognised towards your MCS approval.

Training as a Water Harvesting/Re-use Installer

Those of you intending to undertake Training and Assessment to achieve this award should hold N/SVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence in

• Plumbing or
• Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or
• Heating Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or
• Oil Fired Technical Services or
• Gas Installation and Maintenance and
• Water Regulations/Water Byelaws (WRAS or equivalent)

This 3 day course will provide you with the training and assessment to ensure that you have the skills and knowledge required to plan and prepare for, install (including testing and commissioning) and handover of rainwater harvesting and greywater reuse systems. The unit primarily covers systems up to 6m³ of storage volume but will also have relevance to systems with a storage volume in excess of 6m³. The unit also includes fundamental design awareness and component selection outcomes but does not include detailed design.

Both theory and practical training takes place within Able Skills purpose built Environmental Technologies Training Centre which has been approved by the National Skills Academy to form part of the NSA Hub - The accredited training network for environmental technologies.

City & Guilds 2399 - Water Harvesting & Re-use Systems

2399-42 - Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Water Harvesting and Re-use Systems

City & Guilds are the leading provider of accredited qualifications in the UK and are always at the forefront of new technical training with industry recognised qualifications which applies to this Water Harvesting & Re-use Systems qualification. This qualification will allow candidates to be recognised as competent in the field of Water Harvesting & Re-use Systems and play a vital role in the use of renewable energy as this market continually grows.

MCS

Microgeneration-Certification Scheme (MCS) and Competent Person Scheme Providers

The purpose of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme is to evaluate microgeneration products and installers against robust criteria providing greater protection for consumers.

This scheme has the approval from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, industry and non-governmental groups as a prime method for making a substantial contribution to cutting the UK's dependency on fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions.

To join a MCS "Microgeneration Certificate Scheme" an appropriate and recognised Water Harvesting & Re-use Systems qualification must be held. It is expected that candidates have appropriate qualifications to undertake Training and Assessment to achieve this award and so it is essential that the trainee holds one ODPM recognised competency in a conventional fuel i.e. gas, oil or solid fuel; or for those in the plumbing field an NVQ level 2 or equivalent plumbing qualification as well as Water Regulations/Byelaws.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) supports the recognition of qualified personnel within this field and sees Solar Thermal systems as an essential part of the Government energy policy.

2399-42 - Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Water Harvesting and Re-use Systems

This 5 day course requires both classroom and practical training and assessment. Candidates are required to wear safety boots but all other PPE requirements are provided by Able Skills for use throughout the course.
