The current C&G Plumbing qualifications: 6129 levels 2 and 3 are to be replaced by C&G 6035-02 - Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies late in 2012.

This is excellent news for both colleges and private providers alike as the introduction of these new Plumbing qualifications will mean that adult learners will still have a viable option for entry into the plumbing industry without having the immediate pressure of achieving NVQ units which the current C&G 6189 places on them.

The courses are intended for those that want to gain practical skills and knowledge in order to gain entry into the plumbing industry as a Plumber. They are also suitable for those wanting to update their knowledge and skills for progression within the industry.

Progression can be to:

• C&G 6035 Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing Studies and/or
• C&G 6189 Level 2 NVQ in Plumbing and Heating and
• C&G 6189 Level 3 NVQ in Plumbing and Heating (as long as C&G 6035 level 3 has been achieved)

The 6189 qualifications are the new sector diplomas that require the candidates to be working as Plumbers so that work based assessments can be undertaken (similar to the current C&G 6089 – NVQ)

Alternatively, you can choose a Gas Managed Learning Programme if you want to fast track to becoming Gas Safe registered.

C&G 6035-02 Level 2 - Next start date: 07^th January 2013

Over the past few years there have been various changes and additions to the plumbing qualifications that have been available to people and it would appear that everything has now settled down with the introduction of the C&G 6035-02 and C&G 6035-03. So, if you are looking to change career and become a Plumber then this level 2 C&G qualification is your starting point.

This qualification has been put together using units from the C&G 6129 which has been the most popular route into the plumbing industry for the past few years and also C&G 6189 which was introduced in 2011.

Able Skills is an established, approved City & Guilds Training Centre and our Plumbing instructors have looked at this new qualification, its content and assessment methods, and they feel that it is a real step forward for City & Guilds and an excellent introduction to plumbing and for anyone looking to learn to become a Plumber.

This 6035 is an essential part of your plumbing future and is an excellent platform to move forward to a variety of other training and assessment options.

This course will provide you with the underpinning knowledge required to move forward to NVQ Level 2 (6189) which can be achieved once in the work place. Able Skills has NVQ assessors in place who can support you whilst you are working within the industry and assess you in your workplace. Alternatively, you can move onto 6035-03 Level 3 which will advance your plumbing skills and knowledge, cover system design and also provide you with your first steps towards Gas Safe registration. From here you can also achieve NVQ Level 3 (6189) (as long as you have achieved the level 2 NVQ) or undertake a Gas Portfolio placement or even undertake training and assessment in various Renewable Technologies.

C&G 6035

The structure of this level 2 Plumbing course does not require work based assessments and everything that is required to complete the award can be done here at Able Skills. This particular Plumbing qualification is perfect for those of you who do not currently work within the Plumbing industry but who are looking to change career. The qualification forms the basis of knowledge for all modern domestic plumbing and is therefore an excellent starting point for anyone looking for a career in plumbing. Equally, it is also suitable for those of you already working in the plumbing industry who require in-depth technical knowledge without completing an apprenticeship.

Able Skills is offering this C&G 6035 at Level 2 on a fast track basis - 6 weeks on a full time basis.

During this 6 weeks of intensive training - 50% of which is devoted to practical work - the 6035 Level 2 will provide all of the necessary foundation knowledge for entrants to undertake domestic plumbing work. 

We are aware that there are many training centres in the UK offering Plumbing Qualifications and we would advise caution when you are ready to book a course like this.

• In order for your plumbing course to run swiftly and smoothly, you should ensure that your chosen training centre has qualified Instructors, Assessors and Internal Verifiers.

C&G 6035-02 Level 2 - Next start date: 07^th January 2013

During this course, you will be assessed by practical assignments with external exams under the guidance of City & Guilds.

207 - Sanitation

Assessed by a practical assignment

208 - Central heating systems

Assessed by multiple choice on-line exam and a practical assignment

209 - Drainage systems

210 - Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering

Assessed by multiple choice on-line exam

This is a formal trade qualification and is required in order for candidates to progress further in their plumbing training/career. It can also be used for people who are looking to retrain and enter the plumbing industry.

Each section has practical assessments and multiple choice exams, all practical assignments are recorded, photographed and signed off by Able Skills qualified assessors, this is over seen by Able Skills own qualified Internal Verifiers. This system ensures that the entire course, practical through to written/online exams is carried out here on site at Able Skills and without delay. At the end of your course, your completed portfolio together with the results of your assessments and exams are submitted to City & Guilds for certification and award for the City & Guilds 6035 Level 2 Plumbing Diploma.

Throughout your training we will provide all tools and materials required for you to successfully complete your assignments. All we ask is that you ensure that you have protective footwear and fire-retardant overalls are required for health and safety.

We will also provide you with the recommended course reference book which supports this course and contains all the relevant information required to successfully complete this plumbing course. If you use this reference book as recommended by your instructor, it will help you achieve your goal.

Plumbing Regulation Courses

In addition, we also offer training and assessment for other plumbing related qualifications, Energy Efficiency, Water Regulations, Unvented Hot Water Systems and Solar Thermal Domestic Hot Water. Laws and regulations change rapidly with the emphasis on being properly qualified, these can all be obtained at Able Skills. 

Part P Domestic Electrics

We have a dedicated Electrical centre where you will be able to undertake training for Part P, this will be a requirement should you want to carry out any electrical work within Kitchens and Bathrooms.

Gas Training

Additionally, we also have a dedicated Gas Centre which will provide you with the opportunity to learn about how you can competently work on gas appliances. This Managed Learning programme allows you to return at a later date to undergo assessments for CCN1 and appliances with a view to applying for Gas Safe registration. This will apply after you have spent time working alongside a Gas Safe registered Engineer who will act as an onsite recorder and sign all portfolio evidence.

Renewable Technologies

Alternatively, if you have taken an interest in the UKs drive on reducing carbon emissions and you would like to contribute to the 2020 target to reduce these emissions, you may be interested in one or more of the many Renewable Technology courses which we can deliver in our dedicated Renewable Energy training centre.

Other Related Skills

If you would like to add additional useful skills to your plumbing qualification and maybe consider that tiling is a service you would also like to provide, we can offer tiling courses. Maybe being able to plaster any areas affected during a plumbing installation is needed, we can offer plastering courses.
