At present, there are 2 options available to provide you with qualifications recognised for entry into the Plumbing industry and Able Skills are in a position to offer both training options.
C&G 6129
Able Skills is an established, approved City & Guilds Training Centre and as such, is able to offer you the opportunity to obtain the City & Guilds 6129 - Plumbing Technical Certificate at level 2. The current industry recognised entry level to the plumbing sector is the C&G 6129.
This course will provide you with the underpinning knowledge required to move forward to the NVQ Level 2 (6089) which can be achieved once in the work place. The 6129 is an essential part of your plumbing future. If you choose, you can opt to be assessed on site with a view to obtaining an NVQ (C&G 6089). Able Skills has NVQ assessors in place who can support you whilst you are working within the industry and assess you in your workplace.
The 6129 level 2 course starts with basic pipe work skills and moves onto more complex plumbing tasks, including airing cupboards, bathroom suites, above ground drainage, central heating installation (no gas/oil), lead work and low carbon steel. The various tasks set will provide you with the skills to undertake such work competently and safely once you are working as a Plumber.
This Plumbing qualification is also available at Able Skills over weekends.
This C&G 6129 Plumbing qualification forms the basis of knowledge for all modern domestic plumbing and is the starting point for anyone looking for a career in plumbing. Many training providers will try and sell you City & Guilds 6022 or 6032 as an equivalent or as industry recognised qualifications but they are not. These courses will not provide you with the skills or knowledge a plumber needs.
We are aware that there are many training centres in the UK offering the plumbing award 6129 and we would advise caution when you are ready to book a course like this.
Things to check before you book:
• We recommend that you confirm the Training Centres City & Guilds Registration number and also that you enquire as to the qualifications of their staff.
• In order for your plumbing course to run swiftly and smoothly, you should ensure that your chosen training centre has qualified Instructors, Assessors and Internal Verifiers.
• Better still, visit the centre and view the facilities available.
• You should be allowed access to see the training bays, chat to instructors and additionally, any existing students.
• Lastly, confirm the timing of your course. If your intended course is to be achieved in blocks then be sure that you can return at a time of your choice and that you will not be left waiting for months on end.
This qualification is Industry standard and should sell itself. You should not have to endure heavy duty salesmen tactics either at a training facility or in your home.
The new Plumbing qualification which has been introduced for 2011 is the C&G 6189 Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing & Heating. The qualification structure differs slightly from this C&G 6129 but overall, the end result is similar in that you will be taught domestic plumbing and achieve a level 2 qualification.
