C & G 6189 Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing & Heating with Gas

Welcome to Able Skills C&G 6035-02 Level 2 Plumbing Diploma with Gas and Site Skills

At Able Skills we have dedicated training facilities for dedicated subjects and this enables us to offer every individual the opportunity to learn as much about the construction industry and related subjects as possible.

We are very aware that many subjects are linked and go hand in hand and as a result, we have devised this particular package for those of you who want to undertake training with a view to eventually being able to achieve Gas Safe registration.

Whether you are looking to gain employment within the plumbing industry or are considering self employment, additional skills that compliment your plumbing work can only be of benefit. How frequently have you assumed that the Plumber in your home can also service your boiler or the Gas Engineer who is servicing your boiler might also be able to fix your leaky tap? Gas training is a natural progression for any Plumber.

This particular training package offers:

  • A full plumbing award - City & Guilds 6035 level 2 Diploma
  • 3 weeks of domestic gas training
  • Site Skills Training

As an established, approved City & Guilds and CITB approved training centre we are able to offer these courses to you as full and recognised, accredited awards which meet industry requirements and follow the correct route as the Plumbing and Gas industry requires.

Plumbing

The Plumbing 6035 at level 2 is an industry recognised plumbing qualification and forms the basis of knowledge for all modern domestic plumbing and is the starting point for anyone looking for a career in plumbing and an essential part of your plumbing future.

This plumbing course starts with basic pipe work skills and moves onto more complex plumbing tasks, including airing cupboards, bathroom suites, above ground drainage, central heating installation (no gas/oil) and low carbon steel.

The various tasks set will provide you with the skills to undertake such work competently and safely once you are working as a Plumber.

Site Skills

At Able Skills we aim to prepare everyone as best we can for the industry that they are choosing to move in to. Often, this means that we need to consider what other skills an individual may need to have in order to undertake the job of their choice.

The work of a Plumber and/or Gas Engineer can vary; it is not always as simple as undertaking a service or removing a boiler and replacing it with a newer version. There will be instances when appliances may be required to be re-sited, pipework will need to be run, re-sized etc. Floor boards may need to come up and drilling through masonry for the boiler flue will need to be undertaken – the list is endless.

This course will cover most eventualities and will ensure that when you undertake your first job or start a gas portfolio placement, nothing should be beyond your skill level.

Gas Training

The Gas training aspect of this combined package will provide you with training covering flues, ventilation, combustion and controls.

This will provide you with the necessary knowledge to then undertake the statutory core gas safety assessment once you have demonstrated competence by working alongside a Gas Safe registered engineer building a portfolio of experience.

Complete Plumbing/Gas/Site-Skills Package

Able Skills offers a separate package of training for those of you who may not be able to locate a gas work placement. This training option is an extended version of this course covering Plumbing, Site Skills, Gas training, Portfolio Placement and ACS (Gas) Assessment.

Staff & Facilities

Able Skills has a dedicated team of experienced and competent Plumbing and Gas instructors who have all previously spent time within the industry, undertaking various aspects of plumbing and domestic gas work so they are without a doubt, the best placed people to deliver this package of learning to you.

We have3 dedicated Domestic Gas training centres and 2 Plumbing centres as well as a dedicated Exam suite. All tools and materials are readily available to assist you in completing both of these courses and all courses are supported by comprehensive and relevant course material.

Able Skills is open 7 days every week and we welcome visitors at all times. Please feel free to come along to view our facilities, have an informal chat with any one of our instructors and meet existing students. This system ensures that the entire course, practical through to written/online exams is carried out here on site at Able Skills and without delay. Site Skills

This Site-Skills course has been put together following consultation with the Gas Engineers that we use when we place our gas portfolio students.

Their recommendations are based on their findings, having sometimes spent several weeks with gas students. Their comments never relate to the gas related knowledge of the students as this is always sound, more-so with other basic skills that students have not picked up because they are not experienced plumbers or similar.

Throughout this Site-Skills course which is predominantly practical, we will endeavour to cover training in the most common aspects of gas and plumbing related work so that you are completely prepared for most eventualities, providing you with the essential skills for working on pipe-work in industry

The course will cover:

  • How an open vented heating and hot water system works
  • How to drain down and decommission the systems
  • How to convert open vented heating systems to a sealed heating system
  • How to mark out the position of a boiler using a boiler template
  • How to drill a hole through masonry for the boiler flue and fix a boiler jig to a masonry wall
  • How to assemble, mark out and hang radiators
  • How to lift correctly, mark out and notch floor joists
  • How to install both copper and plastic pipework under a suspended floor
  • How to fill and vent a system of air

Domestic Gas Training Details

An in depth 3 week course covering flues, ventilation, combustion and controls providing the candidate with the necessary knowledge to undertake the statutory core gas safety assessment. The course is intended for operatives with plumbing, heating, pipefitting or similar skills which can be transferred to the gas industry.

The course is recognised by Gas safe under their qualification requirements for entry on to the ACS scheme. This Managed Learning programme provides both theory and practical training.

This course is designed for those who are not working with or for a Gas safe registered engineer/business and who do not have sufficient knowledge to build the work portfolio before attending the course. The format and content of the work portfolio is covered during the induction.

This 3 week long Gas course is essential training and assessment for all candidates looking to gain access to the Gas Industry.

Week 1

Week 1 of this Gas Training Course will provide you with a great insight into the Gas industry and present you with an understanding of the guidelines and regulations which currently govern the ACS scheme.

During this week of gas training, we will cover basic pipework skills, gas appliance functions and the basic principles of flues and combustion to give candidates the knowledge required to move forward to the next aspect of this Gas course.

At the end of this initial 5 days of gas training, you will undertake a written assessment/multiple choice exam to establish your understanding of the areas that have been covered so far.

Weeks 2 and 3

As you progress through the weeks, the gas course will develop and you will receive training in:

1. Legislation
2. Tightness Testing
3. Pipework requirements
4. Gas safety controls

Again, you will undertake a series of exams and practical assessments to satisfy your instructor that you fully understand all the areas covered at this stage.

Finally, we will provide you with training in:

1. Flueing
2. Ventilation
3. Unsafe situations

And with time permitting, we will provide extra training in the servicing of various appliances.

Gas Next Steps

Once this training has been completed successfully, you will need to prove competence working under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered Engineer. You will be required to complete a portfolio (provided by Able Skills) detailing the various jobs you have undertaken, supported by photographic evidence and signed by your Gas Safe registered Engineer.
Once this has been achieved, you will then need to return to Able Skills to undertake your formal gas assessments (ACS): CCN1 (Core Gas Safety) and Appliances.

You will then be in a position to register with Gas Safe

If you know at the outset that you would like to follow both a Plumbing and Gas career, we do offer a complete package of training incorporating this Plumbing qualification, Gas Training, Portfolio Placement and Assessment.

Additional Courses for Plumbers:

All plumbers benefit by being able to offer a full and varied service to customers or to be able to market themselves to a fuller extent so if you want additional skills, you can consider:

I took the 5 day intensive plumbing course and it was hands on straight away which was great. I learnt so much more than I expected to. Mikes a great teacher and gave us practical, realistic tips and advice too. Great course!

Paul W

I found Able Skills online. I did my research and found them to be the most professional. The course was value for money and met with all my expectations. They offered good concise information in a relaxed environment. I will be recommending Able Skills to others. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and may consider another course in the future.

Paul G

I attended the City & Guilds 6035 Level 2 Plumbing Course. The course was 6 weeks and during this time the Tutor was very good, very experienced with a lot of real-life knowledge rather than purely book. They offer a good environment and facilities. I would consider training there again and would recommend them to anyone considering Plumbing or construction training.

Ben B

I took the C&G Level 2 6035 Plumbing course. I have been wanting to do this course for ages, was more than happy with every part of the course, from the theory to all the practical. I have learnt so so much and didn’t realise how in depth and technical plumbing is until I started. It was all made easier across the board from the patience and teaching of Jim Singleton, I have never met someone with so much knowledge, he made the whole experience fun as well as informative.

Guy A

The C&G 6035 Plumbing course was value for money and met with all my expectations. Good tuition, Jim was like an open book, but at the same time didn’t spoon feed me. He made me have to understand the principle of system, not just know it.

Bhimprasad P

I took the 8 week plumbing City & Guilds Level 2 course, it was brilliant! The instructor of the course was very kind and helpful. I really enjoyed my time during the 8 weeks I trained with Able Skills. I would recommend them to others and consider taking another course with them.

Richard B

I took the 5 day plumbing course. I chose Able Skills because they had a good price for training and excellent feedback.

I found the training to be very useful. Mick was a very helpful instructor and went out of his way to explain any additional elements required  which are generally not covered in the course.

Drew P

Able skills seemed to be the most comprehensive when comparing training centres online. The 5 day introduction to plumbing course offered a huge amount of practical skills in a relatively short period of time. A great course for practical understanding of domestic plumbing, value for money and i would certainly consider their other courses.

Anthony Andres

I took the 5 day plumbing  course after a friend recommended them to me. The trainer was friendly and extremely helpful with all aspects of the course. The facilities are good and I feel like the content of the course was suitable for the aims. I will be recommending.

Joseph B – 8 week 6129 Plumbing Course

Jim was an excellent tutor, very understanding – I learned a lot from him and will certainly be recommending him to family and friends.   I would not change one thing about my course, keep up the good work!

Richard P – Homestudy 6129 Plumbing Course

Able Skills were my choice of training centre due to the value for money and the flexibility offered for training.  I choose the homestudy option which allows me to study at my own pace, when I am ready to complete an assessment or exam I can choose which week I train which makes it easier for me with work commitments.  Whilst in the centre I make a lot of progress and really enjoy the week!

Gobardhan R

I took the C&G Plumbing Course. I found Able Skills through the CTP Website. I Chose to train with them as I had heard good things about them from my colleague. The course was value for money . Coming from a different background, I initially found the course difficult. My Instructor was Jim, and he helped me a lot. When I got the basics right, everything flowed smoothly. I will definitely come back for more courses and recommend to others.

Yubraj G

I heard about Able Skills through a family member. They were the most recognised training centre and were willing to help. As I was totally new to the plumbing course, I found the instructor Jim to be excellent. He managed to teach beginners like myself and others with some plumbing knowledge effortlessly. His skills were always on top. It’s all about understanding not just doing. Thank you Jim.

Alan M

I took the Plumbing Course C&G 6129 with Jim Singleton. I heard about Able Skills through my Brother. Jim was a great instructor and had excellent knowledge of all plumbing work. Thank you again Jim for your 8 weeks of hard work. P.s I will be back.

Dominic B

The facilities are excellent and the accommodation is very reasonable. Jim is an excellent teacher and has a lot of knowledge. His teaching methods are excellent and he was very helpful, down to earth and I could not get through the course without his expertise. The office staff were also very friendly and helpful. Thanks Jim for your expertise and patience through the course.

Simon K

I found Able Skills through Google. I did consider another training provider, but was put off due to their pushy sales team. Able Skills were very friendly and informative on the phone, they were happy for me to make my mind up, whereas the other company hassled me for money. Important factors for me to consider when choosing the right facility was location, price and the ability to add Part P electrics to the end of my course. The course was value for money and met with all my expectations. The facilities here are very good and it’s nice to have your own bay to work in. There’s a lot of kit to play with which is far better than just reading in a book. The course was very informative and Jim is an excellent Tutor. He takes the time to show you how to do something and explain things in layman’s terms. He is excellent at getting the information across and making sense of the book, without Jims explanation the book is a quick reference tool. I’m sure all the other course tutors are just as good but I am very pleased that Jim taught me. He is a wealth of knowledge and easy to talk to. I can’t fault the way Able Skills operates as it seems to run excellently. The course is very good and the classroom time is just enough. I will definitely consider using Able Skills again in the future for other trades I feel would benefit myself. I would not hesitate to recommend Able Skills and Jim to anyone else tahts looking to start up in plumbing.

Adrian S

Jim Singleton was my tutor, his style of teaching both practical and in the classroom was clear and concise. He covered all aspects of the course in great detail and had a knack of making it all easy to understand. His practical knowledge and teaching skills are a real asset and credit to Able Skills. “A Great Teacher”.  The course was value for money and met with my expectations. I would recommend you take a visit to their premises and meet with the tutors and staff. I would definitely recommend them to others.

Mark Gibson

My instructor Toby was very good. He gave me some good knowledge of the plumbing skills required to undertake some home projects. I am overall very happy. The course was value for money and I will be recommending to others.

6129 Plumbing Feedback

Gabriel Cancel

I chose Able Skills because of flexibility of course and payments. I was very pleased with the course because of the structure it had. The most important thing to me was the fact I could train whenever I had time and the pay as you train system worked very well. I would have no hesitation to recommend Able Skills to anyone.

Bill Simpson

I did look around at other training centres before I chose able Skills. I was put off by them because they wanted to ‘interview’ me. Able Skills just invited me to have a look and make my own choice. Jim singleton, the instructor, knows it all and can put things across with courtesy and patience. He is a complete professional. A great tutor.

Calvin Cole

Jim was very helpful in the theory side of the course and very thorough on the practical tasks, which will help when on-site. He can be very strict at times but it is only for my own benefit which I am grateful for.

Mark Brewster

I thought the course was really informative in practical work. Use of tools come with great knowledge of tutors who were excellent. All the tutors were polite and helpful when asked any questions.

Samuel Oni

I chose Able Skills after I had a visit to them and had spoken to the instructor himself. Able Skills is a relaxed environment that really helps when you are studying. The tutors are friendly and willing to help even if they are not part of your department. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Greg Mackrill

The course was local and reasonably priced, I thought. Able Skills has a professional environment with well-educated instructors. An all-round enjoyable experience which helped me gain the required skills to be a plumber.

Ben Martin

The standard and content of the course was all of a very high standard. All the relevant information was passed on in a way it made complete sense.

Josh Ingram

I thought the course and instructor Jim, was excellent. It met and exceeded all expectations. The quality of training was second to none.

Tom Davey

I chose able skills because it’s close to me house and I knew some people who had done the bricklaying course and said it was good. Very friendly place. Everyone approachable and gives good reasonable answers. Instructors are clear and well explained. I can’t fault it!

Min Bahadur Pun

Able skills provide good training for the learner. I think this is one of the best course providers and is definitely value for money.

Tim Vowles

Jim was a great tutor; he was very helpful and gave a lot of good advice. I have learnt a great deal in a short time and I am very happy with the course.

Matthew Gage

Jim was an excellent tutor that was very patient and really helped me and let me work things out and made the classroom a pleasure for me. I would not have got through this course without his support and guidance. P.S. He is genuinely a nice guy and very clever.

Alan Martin

I found this course to be structured very well and have gained a vast amount of knowledge in plumbing. Jim, the instructor, was always very helpful and wanting to pass on his knowledge. This was an enjoyable course which has achieved its aim of giving me the fundamentals in plumbing principles and practical skills.

Simon Thomas

I have loved every minute of the course. I was really nervous on my first day, but the tutors made me feel at ease. I can’t thank everyone enough who has helped me along the way. The tutors and all the staff are so helpful and can’t do enough for anyone.

Adrian Cussens

I think the course was well explained and structured; classroom work was never at saturation point and the breaks ample. Instructor was at times very patient and never felt to be unapproachable. He gave good pointers on things I may have been wrong or on points I could have improved upon. I consider I will be leaving here with a good base of knowledge to the plumbing trade and all I need now is experience.

Phillip Martin

When I was making my decision on where to train, I decided to visit Able Skills in person. When I got there, the owner, Gary, showed me around the whole centre and answered all my questions. I was pleased he did not tray and pressure me into paying a deposit. I was impressed with the facilities I saw and the level of instruction given to the students so I signed up. During my time at Able Skills I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful and I am happy to be going back in October to start my Gas.

Many Thanks

Phil

Jay Kempsford

I was looking for training centres on the internet and I saw Able Skills I looked on their website and then once looking there and seeing what they have to offer I didn’t think to go anywhere else. I liked the fact that they offered an NVQ .toby was very good throughout and also the office staff for making the payments and accommodation.

Richard Mills

I heard about Able Skills on the internet, I choose to train with Able Skills because it is close to my home. Throughout the teaching was at an excellent standard and students were made to feel relaxed and involved as part of a team. Help and advice was always at hand. Best of luck in the future to all involved

Dave Topper

I found Able Skills on the internet I didn’t consider training anywhere else, I like at Able Skills that they offer accommodation for those who have to travel. More than happy with both practical and theory sessions, Toby was patient and attentive to all of those in the class. I also found him to be good at motivating on the harder tasks. The facilities and accommodation were excellent as were the staff in the office.

Laurence Fox

I had considered other training centres but I choose Able Skills because they seemed friendlier and professional. At Able Skills they have really good tutors and they are flexible with both payments and that you can train at the weekends. Without Toby’s knowledge it would have been so much more difficult .BANG ON.
