City & Guilds 6217-02 : 6 Week Carpentry Course

There are currently 2 City & Guilds Construction qualifications available. The C&G 6218 Construction Diploma and the long standing C&G 6217. The C&G 6217 has been re-instated for 2011/2012 due to its popularity and the depth and detail which is provided in each construction subject.

Carpentry for life

Able Skills can offer you the opportunity to obtain a City & Guilds 6217-02 qualification in carpentry. This is an intensive 6 weeks of hands on training, during which time you will build a portfolio of your work.

You will be assessed on a variety of units and will cover a range of work from fixing skirtings, door linings and floor joists to making casement windows and fixing trussed rafters.

The wide variety of work covered reflects reality well as this is the kind of work that is done every day in homes and on sites across the Country. These skills will enable you to undertake a variety of tasks in most carpentry working environments.

At Able Skills we pride ourselves in the diversity of the skills that are available within our carpentry training centre. If you would like to learn more then there is the option to train for an additional 2 weeks to work towards achieving an NVQ or alternatively, we also offer the C&G 6217-05/06 which concentrates on aspects of bench joinery if this is the avenue that you would like to go down.

In addition to this, we also provide training and assessment for the C&G 6218 Construction Diploma which has been newly devised for 2011 and is part of the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF).

This course can be covered over a period to suit you as long as you complete the entire course within 18 months. You can train for 6 consecutive weeks or divide your weeks up.

At Able Skills we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on a pay as you train basis.

City & Guilds 6217-02: 6 Week Carpentry Course

The course will provide you with in depth training during which time you will be assessed by our qualified carpentry assessors. The entire City & Guilds process is completed here on site at Able Skills which ensures this course is delivered using the correct procedures and without delay.

There are 6 mandatory Units and you must complete any 2 Units from the 3 optional units to be awarded a certificate in full.

The 6 Mandatory Units are:

• 001 Fixing Skirting to a timber background
• 002 Fixing floor joists and laying flooring
• 003 Fixing door lining in stud partition or blockwork opening
• 004 Hanging an internal door
• 005 Making a casement window
• 058 Fixing and stabilising trussed rafters

The 3 Optional Units are:

• 059 Accessing for carpentry and joinery
• 060 Setting out and cutting one pair of common rafters
• 061 Operating basic wood machines

This is a hands-on, practical course, it is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.

We feel confident that with the standard of staff and training we provide you can complete this qualification in the stated 6 weeks. If however, there is some reason which leads to you requiring additional training, additional fees will be payable.

We have combined the 2 C&Gs Carpentry & Joinery courses to enable you to achieve both skill sets in a dedicated period of time. With both of these training courses under your belt we feel sure that any carpentry job you complete will be to a fantastic standard with the right finish. This entire course can be completed at weekends too.

Duration: 10 Weeks

8 Week Professional NVQ Carpentry Course

This is a fantastic course which reflects what Carpenters really need to do once working on site. We have combined a C&G Carpentry qualification with NVQ reality training where larger projects are undertaken and completed giving you a real insight into the kind of work you can expect to be undertaking. NVQ registration will produce the right CSCS card to gain you access to any site as a Carpenter. Weekend training is also available to complete this course.

Duration: 8 Weeks

12 Week Professional NVQ Carpentry & Joinery Course

Carpentry and Joinery qualifications will be achieved in the first 10 weeks with the remaining period being dedicated to reality training giving you a healthy insight into the kind of work you will be undertaking once working within the carpentry industry – this will also give you a very good idea of what work you should be taking on to achieve a carpentry level 2 NVQ . You will be able to apply for a CSCS Experienced Worker card. This course can all be achieved at weekends if that is your preference.
