Welcome to Able Skills approved CITB Commercial Gas Training and Assessment Centre.

Able Skills has invested in a dedicated Gas training centre for those of you who work within the Commercial Gas industry and who are in need of assessment or reassessment on appliances and pipework.

Able Skills dedicated Commercial Gas Centre is fully equipped for both Gas training and Gas assessment purposes.

At Able Skills we pride ourselves in the level of Gas training we offer and the support which we provide to all candidates who choose to train with us.

Our Instructors and Assessors have spent many years within the gas industry undertaking both domestic and commercial work but they have also had years of experience teaching and assessing both Domestic and Commercial gas.

They remain constantly up to date with all legislative and regulatory changes ensuring that their course delivery meets the standards required by the Gas industry.

Careful planning along with a committed investment ensures that this Commercial Gas Centre is one of the best equipped in the Country.

The training plans and revision material have been researched to the maximum and have been put together to enable candidates to have the benefit of excellent theory based lessons and also the occasion to get their hands dirty whilst having  the opportunity to fully investigate the workings of these Commercial appliances.

Commercial Gas Safety ACS

To carry out Commercial Gas work an operative must first hold the appropriate certificates of competence, only then can assessment for appliances or pipework be undertaken.

The core commercial certificate of competence can be achieved by taking the full core assessment:

•    COCN1 - Core Commercial Gas Safety

In this ever changing industry, it is advisable that everyone is kept up to date with all of the relevant changes to legislation and regulations and we ensure that our courses cover all aspects of each assessment.

Whilst assessment only is available, we do recommend that operatives attend our revision classes.

If you currently work within the Domestic Gas industry and have the opportunity to work within the Commercial Gas industry, you will need to undertake a training and assessment process for changeover to Commercial Gas. Please visit Commercial Gas Changeover for full details.

Before taking an Appliance or Pipework assessment, a candidate must first hold either Core Commercial Gas Safety (COCN1) or a change over Core Gas Safety Domestic to Commercial (CODNCO1). The remaining assessments can then be taken.

Available assessments for Appliances and Pipework

COCN1 - Core Commercial Gas Safety

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in Core Commercial gas work by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

This gas safety assessment comprises of 12 core competences:-

•    Gas Safety Legislation
•    Gas Emergency Actions and Procedures
•    Characteristics of Combustion and the Use of Flue Analysis Equipment
•    Commercial Ventilation Requirements
•    Installation of Pipework and Fittings (up to and including 28 mm in size
•    Checking and/or Setting Commercial Supply and Meter Regulators
•    Identification of Unsafe Situations and the Use of Emergency Notices and Warning Labels
•    The Operation of and Positioning of Emergency Isolation Controls and Valves
•    Checking and Setting Commercial Appliances/Equipment Burner Pressures up to and Including 21 mbar
•    The Operation and Checking of Appliance Gas Safety Devices and Controls
•    Commercial Appliance Flueing Requirements
•    Re-establish Existing Gas Supply and Relight Commercial Appliances

Duration: Training: 2 days @ £195.00

CDGA1 - Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial direct Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of commission, service, repair and breakdown of all direct fired forced convection commercial heating equipment with either 100% fresh air supply or re-circulated air with forced draught or atmospheric burners by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

Pre-requisite:

Candidates must hold a Certificate of Competence in the following:-

•    Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1
•    Installation first fix Commercial Appliances ICAE1
•    Installation first fix Commercial Pipework ICPN1 (Required if pipework exceeds 28mm diameter)

Duration: Training: ½ day @ £75.00
Assessment: ½ day @ £149.00

CIGA1 - Commission, service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Indirect Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial gas fired forced convection air heaters and gas fired hot water boilers of rated inputs between 60 kw and 2 mw by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

Pre-requisite:

Candidates must hold a Certificate of Competence in the following:-

•    Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1
•    Installation first fix Commercial Appliances ICAE1
•    Installation first fix Commercial Pipework ICPN1 (Required if pipework exceeds 28mm diameter)

Duration: Training: ½ day @ £75.00
Assessment: ½ day @ £149.00

CORT1 - Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Overhead Luminous Radiant Plaque and Radiant Tube Heaters

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial overhead radiant luminous plaque heaters and type A (flueless) and type B (flued) overhead radiant tube heaters by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

Pre-requisite:

Candidates must hold a Certificate of Competence in the following:-

•    Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1
•    Installation first fix Commercial Appliances ICAE1
•    Installation first fix Commercial Pipework ICPN1 (Required if pipework exceeds 28mm diameter)

Duration: Training: ½ day @ £75.00
Assessment: ½ day @ £149.00

TPCP1A - Testing and Direct Purging of Small Low Pressure Commercial Gas Installations

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment in the work of testing and direct purging of pipework (or sections of pipework) downstream of a primary meter control valve having:-

•    A volume of not exceeding 1m3 including any meter and any allowance for fittings.
•    An operating pressure not exceeding 21 mbar (nominal) at the outlet of the primary meter regulator
•    A diameter not exceeding 150 mm
•    The operating pressure at the inlet of the primary meter regulator does not exceed 75 mbar

This assessment will not assess testing for soundness and direct purging outside the range listed above and it may be preferable for operatives to instead undertake category TPCP1 below.

Candidates must hold a Certificate of Competence in Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1.
Duration: Training: 1 day @ £95.00

ICPN1 - First Fix Pipe Installations

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative, by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment in the first fixing of commercial installation pipework, steel, copper and polythene and fittings above 28 mm (1”) up to 150 mm (6”) bore.

Pre-requisite:

Candidates must hold a Certificate of Competence in Commercial Core Gas Safety Assessment COCN1.
Duration: Training: ½ day @ £75.00
Assessment: ½ day @ £149.00
