Able skills have recently signed the contract to secure their service provision and expertise for the London and South East National Skills Academy. Providing Renewable training courses and support for the London and South East HUB.
This new Skills Academy programme will help renewable installers to get training and support at the highest possible level. With the potential of funding for the new Environmental Diploma from City and Guilds ( 2399 ), the uptake should increase in line with public demand and new legislation such as the RHI and Green Deal. The key elements for the Diploma are:
All of which can be done at level 3, here at Able skills renewable technologies centre, one of the best facilities within the UK.
The National Skills Academy and Summit Skills started to assess applications last year and Able skills were successful along with a small number of strategic partners for the London and South east regions. The aim of the National Skills Academy is to ensure the training provided with in the renewables sector, is NOT diluted. The courses have strict guided learning hours and must cover key elements within each technology. This will ensure the installer has a good level of knowledge and practical experience before they embark on customers installations.
This is also helping drive the need for MCS approved installers. All the 2399 modules are accredited to MCS and National Occupational Standards. Each centre had to comply with strict standards of service and delivery which had to be customer focused and auditable for quality assurance purposes.
As the Skills Academy develops further installers will be able to access other forms of training and support from Able skills such as:
Able skills are leaders in renewable training and as part of the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies offer the highest standard of training.
Jed Smith (Head of Renewables, Able skills) stated, "the Skills Academy will help raise the profile of training delivery across the UK, with all partners being accountable for their standards of delivery and service. This is a very positive outcome for the installer, offering reassurances on the standard of training received. The knock on effect is an increase in renewable installations and uptake of MCS."

Able skills and the National kills Academy will continue to work hard promoting best training practise and renewable training courses across the UK. As the National Skills Academy develops more opportunities will be provided to the installer, watch out for further funding opportunities and new technologies.
