Able Skills prides itself on being able to progress people in their chosen field of study and as such, we have secured approval to move forward with Electrical qualifications and deliver NVQ level 3 – City & Guilds 2356.

Since 2006 we have successfully provided training in various Electrical qualifications:

  1. City & Guilds 2330 level 2 – ElectroTechnical Certificate
  2. City & Guilds 2330 level 3 – ElectroTechnical Certificate
  3. City & Guilds 2382 – 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
  4. City & Guilds 2391 – Inspection & Testing
  5. EAL VRQ Level 2 Domestic Electrical Installer for Part P

And a constant source of enquiry from potential Electricians is: ‘Can we do our NVQ with you?’

Huge demand for this next step Electrical qualification has prompted us to move forward, gain approval for this award, develop portfolio material to support the award and more importantly, gather a qualified team of NVQ Assessors to monitor and assess progress.

Those who successfully complete this Electrical NVQ at level 3 will, under JIB standards, qualify to be graded as an 'Approved Electrician' and will be able to apply for a JIB Gold Card.

From the start of this Electrical programme, you will have access to your Assessor and Internal Verifier for the duration of the period that it takes you to compile your portfolio of evidence. These individuals are occupationally competent, qualified and very experienced. They can be contacted by telephone, email or by using Able Skills Forum.

Induction for NVQ Level 3

Ideally, your initial induction will take place at Able Skills whereby both your Assessor and Internal Verifier will fully explain the NVQ procedure, go through all documentation which can be used as Portfolio evidence, agree an assessment plan and arrange On Site Assessments

Electrical NVQ Level 3 Units

Candidates are required to complete projects using evidence from electrical jobs that they have carried out in their place of work.

Candidates must have an appropriate employer who is willing and able to provide assessment opportunities in the type of work required to generate sufficient evidence.

Each unit will normally consist of three projects and there are 8 units:

  1. Ensure safe electrical site working
  2. Prepare to install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  3. Install electric wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  4. Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods
  5. Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation
  6. Diagnose and correct electrical faults
  7. Provide technical and functional information to relevant people
  8. Maintain a healthy and safe working environment

Assessment will be:

  1. Portfolio of work based evidence.
  2. Observation in the workplace.
  3. Written and oral questioning.

*Remember, On-site assessment is a requirement for the work-based portfolio of evidence, so the NVQ cannot be achieved without having gained on-the-job experience, undertaking commercial or industrial work either in employment or work experience with a qualified electrical installer.
