Welcome to Able Skills domestic electrical training courses, providing you with the knowledge and practical skills required to understand domestic wiring and lead you to eventual Part P registration.
Able Skills has devised practical electrical training courses to cover the requirements of domestic installation and Part P.
At the end of these courses students will have a sufficient level of competence, so that once registered with a Part P Governing body, they will be able to work safely, efficiently and legally on domestic electrical installations having obtained the required electrical qualifications.
In order to reach your full potential and fully meet the requirements of the Part P scheme, practical abilities will be required to be updated and an understanding of terminology and basic electrical theory will be essential.
Whether you have a non electrical background or have limited electrical knowledge, we can provide the required training to bring you up to speed.
We have devised this practical Electrical course for those of you wishing to learn electrics to become a Domestic Installer, but who have little prior knowledge or experience of domestic electrical installation and wiring of circuits.
During these 5 days of training, we will cover everything you need to know to move forward and complete electrical work in and around the home once you have registered for Part P.
Our dedicated Domestic Installer Training Centre has been built to cater for both practical and classroom theory. The training carried out in our workshop bays reflect what you will come across within a domestic dwelling and you will quickly understand what you are legally allowed to undertake within the scope of Part P.
The mixture of both practical and theory guarantees that you will leave our training centre with a full understanding of domestic wiring systems, terminology and more importantly you will be fully aware of the legal requirements when carrying out any domestic electrical installations.
Able Skills is open 7 days every week and we welcome visitors at all times. Please feel free to come along to view our facilities, have an informal chat with any one of our instructors and meet existing students.
We feel that this is an excellent introduction for anyone looking to invest in training and this option will help you decide if Able Skills is where you want to train.

Our instructors are very approachable and understand fully the complex nature of electrical installations having spent years working out on site and within the electrical industry. They have a vast knowledge of both domestic and commercial electrics as well as the teaching skills required to convey this information to their students.
We have been delivering these courses for a number of years now and we are confident that we have mastered all of the requirements to produce a comprehensive and successful electrical training course.
This is an in depth course and requires reading materials to support what you will learn and to reiterate everything taught to you. For this introductory course we recommend that you have a copy of the following:
IEE On-site Guide; BS 7671 : 2008 IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (Spiral-bound - 1 Sep 2008) – ISBN: 978-0-86341-854-9
Electrician's Guide to the Building Regulations: Pt. P (Wiring Regulations): Pt. P (Wiring Regulations) by Paul Cook (Paperback - 15 Aug 2008) - ISBN: 978-0-86341-862-4
Electrical installations are complex and can be dangerous which is why Part P has been devised. We highly recommend that you carefully consider undertaking this introductory to Electrics course before moving onto the EAL VRQ Level 2 (for Part P).
If you have been undertaking domestic electrical work and you are unsure as to whether or not you need to complete this introductory course prior to being assessed on the EAL VRQ level 2 course, please call us at Able Skills for guidance.
The natural progression following this course is to obtain a qualification to enable you to register onto a Part P scheme. Able Skills has devised various discounted packages to cover the requirements of Part P from the very basic requirements to more comprehensive training packages – All of which can be located on this Electrical site.
If you are a complete beginner, please visit complete training for Part P. These combined courses will provide you with everything you need to become a qualified Domestic Electrical Installer.
For those of you who require more detail on testing, please visit Part P Package with 2392. Again, this will provide you with the full requirements for complete Part P registration and that little bit more.
As an alternative, we also provide training for those of you looking to become Electricians within the Commercial and Industrial sector. For this you would start with City & Guilds 2330 at level 2 and then add on additional training and qualifications when you are ready.
