Multi Skills Courses

As there is now a greater demand for people to be multi skilled in their work, Able Skills has devised multi skills packages offering you the opportunity to undertake multiple courses to cover several subjects providing you with a wider range of knowledge in specific areas.

We have dealt with many Companies since we have been providing training and we have learned that the same employee has been sent to Able Skills to learn various different subjects, therefore providing a Company with a dedicated multi skilled tradesman. This is clearly the route that a lot of Companies are taking and we are confident that we can provide the required training for anyone looking to be employed in that field, as a multi skilled tradesman.

We offer a standard multi skills package which consists of a week each in Tiling, Plastering, Bricklaying and Plumbing. The cost for this package is £1225.00 however, if you want to build your own package of courses, please feel free to do so. If you call us with your choice of courses, we will cost them for you, applying the relevant discounts.

All of our courses are also available by way of weekend training so that your ongoing weekly commitments do not need to be disturbed in any way whilst you learn your chosen trade skills.

Able Skills prides itself in the flexibility we provide, whether this is in respect of the course schedule or payment options. We are keen to make training requirements as accessible as possible to everyone. The various options we have means that you can spread your training time over a longer period if necessary and that these courses can be paid for as you attend each one.

The level of training you will receive is defined by the fact that every instructor employed at Able Skills is not only a time served tradesmen, specialising in their field, but individually they have all qualified and received their Assessing and Internal Verification awards. This means that even people on short courses receive the same excellent tuition as those attending for qualifications.

Multi Skills Courses for DIY

Our multi skills package is not just for the purpose of obtaining a job, they are also fantastic training courses for those of you looking to cover areas around the house, for DIY purposes. If you have jobs that need doing and you would rather attempt them yourself then come along  to our training courses and let us teach you how to do it properly.

Our courses do not have an entry level requirement and no previous experience is required to attend the courses. We firmly believe that there isn’t anything that we can’t teach you within the areas of construction we offer training in.

As before, you can opt for a standard multi skills course package of Tiling, Plastering, Plumbing and Bricklaying or you can build your own multi skills training course which will cover your own personal requirements, you can even include advanced training course options if you want to take your skills to another level.

Multi Skills Courses with a Qualification

Able Skills is an approved City & Guilds and CAA Assessment Centre. This means that we can provide you with qualifications at different levels in any of the subjects we teach.

From a multi skills point of view, we offer the City & Guilds Multi Craft award. This 6 or 7 week accredited training course allows you to cover 3 subjects in detail. We will provide you with the training required to move onto your assessments, building a portfolio of evidence as you progress. The final outcome is a City & Guilds 6218 Diploma confirming your qualification as a Multi Skilled tradesman.

Able Skills has dedicated Training Centres for each subject we offer allowing you to complete your training in a spacious and friendly environment. We provide all tools and materials required to complete your training courses.

Tiling

•    Setting out your tiling work.
•    Explaining all the different adhesives used for different surfaces.
•    Demonstrating all the tools required.
•    Cutting tiles using wet tile cutters, dry tile cutters, tile scribes, tile snips and tile saws.
•    Explaining tiling involving Borders, Diamonds and Patterns.
•    How to cut around windows and reveals.
•    How to cope with tiling difficult areas such as uneven walls.
•    How to tile angled ceilings and socket areas.
•    How to tile splash-backs.
•    How to tile around boxed in pipes.

Plastering

•    Health & Safety and PPE
•    To cut and fix plaster board to walls and ceilings.
•    To tape standard and internal joints.
•    To cut and fix angle beads around windows and reveals.
•    To prepare surfaces before plastering using bonding plaster and finishing plaster, ensuring a flat finished surface ready for decorating.
•    To mix plastering materials.
•    To skim walls.
•    To skim ceilings.
•    To apply PVA adhesive Unibond to existing surfaces.

Bricklaying

•    how to set out building lines

Carpentry

•    Use hand tools such as chisels, planes etc.
•    Cut basic joints
•    Cut and fit dado rails, architraves, skirtings and doorstops
•    Erect a stud-wall
•    Fit a door lining/frame
•    Hang a door
•    Fit a Lock

Kitchen Fitting

•    Selecting the right units for a kitchen, reading manufacturers scale drawing and the planning of a basic kitchen layout
•    Marking, Setting out and levelling of units to a datum line
•    Assembling and Fixing base and wall units (as applicable)
•    Practice scribing then cutting of a 45 90 degree masons mitres using a work top jig and router
•    Cutting inserts for sink and hobs in worktops.
•    Hanging doors and templates for fitting of door furniture.
•    Marking, cutting and fixing of cornice, pelmet and plinth.
•    You will also cover health and safety along with the requirement for Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE), and the building regulations applicable to kitchen fitting in respect of electrics and water.

Painting & Decorating

•    Health and Safety, PPE and safe working practices
•    Correct use of tools and equipment used in this trade
•    Preparation of new and old surfaces ready for painting
•    Repairing imperfections in walls and wood ready for painting
•    Application of water based products such as primers, undercoats, emulsion and eggshell using  brushes and rollers
•    Application of oil based products
•    Cutting around obstructions, openings, fittings such as radiators, windows, sockets and switches
•    How to use a roller effectively

Electrical

•    Applicable Building Regulations
•    Electrical Safety legislation, regulations standards and terminology

•    Identification of unsafe electrical situations
