Construction of £9m green energy school gets underway

Work has started on one of Britain's most ambitious green construction projects, with dozens of key jobs set to be created over the next few months in the Leeds area.
Through the £9.1 million project, the existing school buildings at the Bankside site will be demolished with an energy efficient school being built in their place, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.
As well as boasting energy-efficient walls, the upcoming Harehills School will be equipped with pumps to draw heat from the ground and photovoltaic cells which will enable the building to get all of its electricity from the sun, as well as provide employment for specialist electrical engineers in the city.
Richard Harker, executive board member for education at Leeds City Council, told the newspaper: "As well as being kinder on the environment it will help to provide our young people with the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the best start to their adult lives."
The construction project is to be recorded in a special documentary, which will be filmed so as to inspire future generations to realise the importance of green power and the growing relevance of renewable electrical courses.
At the same time, it has been announced that work on a new five-star hotel in North Yorkshire is to begin in September, with the £40 million project set to create as many as 400 jobs.
