TUC: Millions of green jobs await

Millions of green jobs could be created in the UK thanks to government investment.
That is the opinion of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), which has claimed that the UK could become a world leader in the green job arena.
Brenan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, said heavy investment could lead to strong growth in the sector.
"Whilst the UK is lagging behind many of our European neighbours in embracing green technology, the UK has a world class manufacturing base to build on," he said.
It is expected that as many as 1.2 million jobs could be created by the UK Low Carbon Transition Plan.
According to the Carbon Salary Survey, up to a third of those working in the climate change industry in the UK were not British citizens, with 17 per cent coming from the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
Only a fifth of those working in the green sector in North America and Asia are expatriates.
