London gets £4m to fund green sector jobs

An eco-innovation fund has been announced by the mayor of London.
Boris Johnson revealed yesterday (July 30th) that £4 million is to be made available to create jobs in the green sector and cut carbon emissions in the UK capital.
Commenting on the venture, Mayor Johnson said: "This will help to boost a low carbon economy in London, creating thousands of green collar jobs and fits with my overall goal to deliver genuine changes through high impact, value for money initiatives."
It is hoped that the fund will leverage millions of pounds in private investment to enable the mayor to meet his plan of reducing carbon emissions in London by 60 per cent.
Public sector organisations such as the capital's NHS Trusts, universities and borough councils are some of the parties that will be interested in the fund.
Martin Powell, director of project delivery at the London Development Agency, said that it is hoped the fund will "act as a catalyst for organisations to retrofit their building stock", cutting emissions and saving on business cost.
