Boris Johnson promises to plug social housing fund cuts

A funding gap for houses in the capital will be plugged, the mayor of London has pledged.
Commenting that the government has made a "back door raid" on the funds, Boris Johnson said that funds must be made available.
"I am looking at how I can use my powers to win back London's rightful share of new housing funds, and reverse those decisions that condemn many of London's poorest families to live in unacceptably poor conditions," he said.
Any new construction could lead to an increase in jobs for electricians, bricklayers and plasterers, among others in the trade.
In a letter to the minister of state for communities and local government, Johnson said he was concerned that funding that had been set aside to upgrade 100,000 of the capital's most needy social houses was being taken to other parts of the country.
He also noted that he had not been consulted over the cuts.
