Patch Plastering & Coving Course
Able Skills Plastering department is designed to cover all aspects of plastering and related work. We are able to offer short courses to cover other plastering or finishing effects in an attempt to save you paying a tradesman to do those smaller jobs.
On this page we are providing you with details of how you can undertake plastering training to enable you to repair damaged plastered areas, walls and ceilings and also how to apply coving to a room to give that finished effect.
Both of these courses can be completed in a very small time period and can be covered either through the week or at weekends.
Patch Plastering Course
Patching is an existing unit covered within the City & Guilds qualification course we offer, and the feedback from candidates has confirmed that this is an essential area to learn for when you are undertaking plastering work. As a result of this, we have devised this 2 day course, following guidance from City & Guilds.
Completion of this course will enable you to repair damaged areas on a wall or ceiling without the need to re plaster an entire area.
However, should there be additional areas requiring plastering, we can offer you a variety of plastering courses, these will be available for you to view whilst you are here on your patching course.
Coving Course
If you would like to learn to add the finishing touches to your rooms yourself, this 1 day course will show you how to apply coving correctly, obtaining the finish you require.
The instructors you will have are the same instructors who provide this training to our City & Guilds candidates so this assures you that the quality of training you will receive is to an extremely high standard.

Able Skills has their own accommodation available at £20 per night for those of you who are travelling longer distances to train with us.
Learning plastering has a huge scope and the various courses we offer can provide you with the skills and knowledge to cover just about every plastering requirement, from the very small to the much larger and complex jobs.
Patch Plastering Course
This 2 day Patch Plastering course has been specially tailored to teach you how to repair damaged surfaces, walls and ceilings; during this short course you will learn how to repair damaged plaster, cracks, imperfections, channels and corners.
On completion of this course you will have gained the confidence and technique required to repair any damaged surface and achieve an acceptable finish.
In an area dedicated to understanding how plaster repairs should be undertaken, you will be taught the following:
• Health and Safety
• Determine what is required when patching/selecting the right tools for the job
• Cut back and remove the damaged plaster/Preparation of your working area
• Select the correct materials for patch
• Learning about backing coats and how to mix.
• Repairing damaged plastered walls
• How to patch plaster and blend into existing plaster
• Rub up patch
• Skim patch
Patch repairing plaster can be difficult but after this intensive 2 days dedicated to repair work, we feel confident that you will be able to undertake those necessary repairs.
Coving Course
Able Skills is offering you the opportunity to attend a 1 day training course to enable you to apply coving correctly. This course will teach you:
• how to prepare walls and ceilings to ensure coving fixes securely
• standard practices for handling coving.
• how to measure and cut coving to the correct size, including internal and external mitres
• how to mix adhesive to the correct consistency and apply it
• how to fix the coving correctly
• how to fill joints, clean and finish to a high standard
Once you have completed this course, you will be competent to carry out any coving requirements.
