City & Guilds 2372 Level 3 from Able Skills
Certificate in Installing and Testing Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
Able Skills has gradually been implementing training courses which will fall in line with the Governments drive on protecting and enhancing the environment and tackling climate change:
- Solar Domestic Hot Water Heating Courses
- Energy Efficiency Courses
- Unvented Hot Water Systems Courses – meeting the requirements of Part L, conservation of fuel and power
We are planning additional training to cover:
- Ground Source Heat Pumps
- Air Source Heat Pumps
But in the meantime, the next step for us is to provide training for qualified Electricians who are looking to retrain in order to install Photovoltaic systems.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) sees PV systems as an essential part of Government energy policy and supports the recognition of qualified personnel within this initiative. There is now a huge drive towards this kind of renewable energy which will contribute to lowering emissions. PV systems generate no greenhouse gases; a typical domestic system can save approximately 1.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) uses energy from the sun to create electricity to run appliances and lighting.
PV systems use cells to convert solar radiation into electricity. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers, causing electricity to flow, the greater the intensity of the light, the greater the flow of electricity.
Electrical Course City & Guilds 2372:
Installing and Testing Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
Training and Assessment to achieve this award is intended for qualified, practicing electricians who will be required to install grid connected domestic photovoltaic systems that are either integrated into, or retro onto, a domestic dwelling.
Able Skills require candidates to hold appropriate qualifications related to electrical installation such as an NVQ at level 3, knowledge of the IEE Wiring Regulations (C&G 2381/2382) and inspection and testing (C&G 2391).
This Electrical course and award is designed to offer specific skills and knowledge to electricians to ensure they are conversant with Regulations and Code of Practice related to PV systems.
The award is made of two units:
- The first unit describes the underpinning knowledge that is required to understand the theory behind PV systems, related Regulations, safety requirements and installation and testing.
- The second unit is concerned with the application of practical skills in carrying out installation and testing.
For the award of a certificate candidates must successfully complete both assessments.
The structure of this Electrical course will be split between classroom theory sessions and practical tasks.
Unit 1 2372-001 Knowledge of photovoltaic systems:
Written paper of 20 short answer questions and 1 long answer question 1
- Photovoltaic systems
- Standards, Regulations, Guidelines, Codes of Practice
- PV safety
- System components
- Approvals
- Installation
- Commissioning and testing
- Customer care
Unit 2 Practical applications 2372-002 Practical assessment:
Upon successful completion of this assessment, the candidate will be able to, under real or simulated conditions:
- Install and commission a basic grid connected PV system
- Ensure work area is safe
- Carry out basic roofing techniques
- Position fix and install at height
- Position fix and install inverter, meter, customer display panel
- Label in accordance with G83/1 and G59/1
- Connect system to the grid through a domestic distribution board
- Carry out measurement of open circuit voltage and short circuit current for modules, strings and array both at end of installation and during installation process
- Undertake fault diagnosis on modules and array
- Undertake operational testing for an inverter
Able Skills extensive training facilities and staff are what have enabled us to move forward and provide this training option. Qualified Electricians may choose to add this qualification to their portfolio to enable them to offer a broader scope of service - Moving in the right direction, towards a cleaner and greener Nation.
City & Guilds 2372 Course Fees are £995.00 (inc vat)
Course Duration: 7 Days (Monday - Sunday)
