At Able Skills we have dedicated training facilities for dedicated subjects and this enables us to offer every individual the opportunity to learn as much about the construction industry and related subjects as possible; we are very aware that many subjects are linked and go hand in hand and as a result, we have devised a package for those of you who want to cover trade linked subjects to be able to offer a fuller service once you have entered the plumbing industry.

Whether you are looking to gain employment within the plumbing and gas industry or are considering self employment, additional qualifications fitting in with required regulations can only be of benefit, making you more marketable and enhancing your employability.

This particular training package covers Plumbing, Plumbing Regulations and the entire Gas process as follows:

• A full plumbing award - City & Guilds 6129 level 2 or City & Guilds 6189 level 2
• Energy Efficiency
• Unvented Hot Water Systems
• Water Regulations
• Solar Heating
• 3 weeks of gas training
• Portfolio Placement
• ACS - Gas Assessments

As an established, approved City & Guilds, CITB and BPEC approved training centre we are able to offer these courses to you as full and recognised, accredited awards which meet industry requirements and follow the correct route as the Plumbing and Gas industry requires.

Plumbing

The Plumbing 6129 at level 2 or the Plumbing 6189 at level 2 are the current industry recognised entry level to the plumbing industry and either of these courses will provide you with the underpinning knowledge required to move forward into the industry.

These C&G 6129/6189 Plumbing qualifications form the basis of knowledge for all modern domestic plumbing and are the starting point for anyone looking for a career in plumbing and an essential part of your plumbing future.

These plumbing courses start with basic pipe work skills and move onto more complex plumbing tasks, including airing cupboards, bathroom suites, above ground drainage, central heating installation (no gas/oil), lead work and low carbon steel.

The various tasks set will provide you with the skills to undertake such work competently and safely once you are working as a Plumber.

These Plumbing qualifications are also available at Able Skills over weekends.

Plumbing Regulation Courses

CITB or BPEC accredited Energy Efficiency, Unvented Hot Water Systems and Water Regulations will provide you with industry required certification which will come in very useful in varying aspects of your plumbing work and Solar Hot Water Thermal Systems will enable you to dip into the Renewable Energy market.

Gas Training

The Gas training aspect of this combined package will provide you with training covering flues, ventilation, combustion and controls.

Gas Placement

The Portfolio placement will be with one of Able On-Time Services registered Gas Engineers. Able On-Time Services is the sister company of Able Skills and all employees are handpicked ex-Able Skills students who have themselves completed this particular Plumbing and Gas package.

Gas Assessments

Statutory core gas safety and appliances assessment in order to apply for Gas Safe registration.

What is the correct route to Plumbing and Gas?

Many training providers will try and sell you City & Guilds 6022 or 6032 as an equivalent or as industry recognised qualifications but they are not. These courses will not provide you with the skills or knowledge a plumber needs.

We are aware that there are many training centres in the UK offering the plumbing award 6129 and we would advise caution when you are ready to book a course like this.

Things to check before you book:

• We recommend that you confirm the Training Centres City & Guilds Registration number and also that you enquire as to the qualifications of their staff.
• In order for your plumbing course to run swiftly and smoothly, you should ensure that your chosen training centre has qualified Instructors, Assessors and Internal Verifiers.
• Better still, visit the centre and view the facilities available.
• You should be allowed access to see the training bays, chat to instructors and additionally, any existing students.
• Lastly, confirm the timing of your course. If your intended course is to be achieved in blocks then be sure that you can return at a time of your choice and that you will not be left waiting for months on end.

This qualification is Industry standard and should sell itself. You should not have to endure heavy duty salesmen tactics either at a training facility or in your home.

Qualifications and Credit Framework - QCF

Please note that C&G has introduced a new format for some qualifications to be known as the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This format is of equivalent merit to the existing C&G National Qualification Framework (NQF) based qualifications which encompass VRQ and NVQ.

However, even though the new qualifications are available under the QCF, a decision has been made to retain existing qualifications for the foreseeable future. At Able Skills we are able to offer both training options in Plumbing at level 2 and so this particular package can be achieved by undertaking either the C&G 6129 or the C&G 6189 - the choice is yours to make.

Able Skills is open 7 days every week and we welcome visitors at all times. Please feel free to come along to view our facilities, have an informal chat with any one of our instructors and meet existing students.

We feel that this is an excellent introduction for anyone looking to invest in training and this option will help you decide if Able Skills is where you want to train.
