Welcome to Able Skills C&G 6035-02 Level 2 Plumbing Diploma with Site Skills, Gas, Portfolio & ACS
At Able Skills we have dedicated training facilities for dedicated subjects and this enables us to offer every individual the opportunity to learn as much about the construction industry and related subjects as possible.
We are very aware that many subjects are linked and go hand in hand and as a result, we have devised this particular package for those of you who want to undertake training with a view to eventually being able to achieve Gas Safe registration.
Whether you are looking to gain employment within the plumbing industry or are considering self employment, additional skills that compliment your plumbing work can only be of benefit. How frequently have you assumed that the Plumber in your home can also service your boiler or the Gas Engineer who is servicing your boiler might also be able to fix your leaky tap? Gas training is a natural progression for any Plumber.
This particular training package offers:
- A full plumbing award - City & Guilds 6035 level 2 Diploma
- Site Skills Training
- 3 weeks of domestic gas training
- Gas Portfolio Placement
- ACS Gas Assessment
As an established, approved City & Guilds and CITB approved training centre we are able to offer these courses to you as full and recognised, accredited awards which meet industry requirements and follow the correct route as the Plumbing and Gas industry requires.
The Plumbing 6035 at level 2 is an industry recognised plumbing qualification and forms the basis of knowledge for all modern domestic plumbing and is the starting point for anyone looking for a career in plumbing and an essential part of your plumbing future.
This plumbing course starts with basic pipe work skills and moves onto more complex plumbing tasks, including airing cupboards, bathroom suites, above ground drainage, central heating installation (no gas/oil) and low carbon steel.
The various tasks set will provide you with the skills to undertake such work competently and safely once you are working as a Plumber.
At Able Skills we aim to prepare everyone as best we can for the industry that they are choosing to move in to. Often, this means that we need to consider what other skills an individual may need to have in order to undertake the job of their choice.
The work of a Plumber and/or Gas Engineer can vary; it is not always as simple as undertaking a service or removing a boiler and replacing it with a newer version. There will be instances when appliances may be required to be re-sited, pipework will need to be run, re-sized etc. Floor boards may need to come up and drilling through masonry for the boiler flue will need to be undertaken – the list is endless.
This course will cover most eventualities and will ensure that when you undertake your first job or start a gas portfolio placement, nothing should be beyond your skill level.
The Gas training aspect of this combined package will provide you with training covering flues, ventilation, combustion and controls.
This will provide you with the necessary knowledge to then undertake the statutory core gas safety assessment once you have demonstrated competence by working alongside a Gas Safe registered engineer building a portfolio of experience.
The Portfolio placement will be with one of Able On-Time Services registered Gas Engineers. Able On-Time Services is the sister company of Able Skills and all employees are handpicked ex-Able Skills students who have themselves completed this particular Plumbing and Gas package.
ACS – Gas Assessments

Each section has practical assessments and multiple choice exams, all practical assignments are recorded, photographed and signed off by Able Skills qualified assessors, this is over seen by Able Skills own qualified Internal Verifiers. This system ensures that the entire course, practical through to written/online exams is carried out here on site at Able Skills and without delay. At the end of your course, your completed portfolio together with the results of your assessments and exams are submitted to City & Guilds for certification and award for the City & Guilds 6035 Level 2 Plumbing Diploma.
This Site-Skills course has been put together following consultation with the Gas Engineers that we use when we place our gas portfolio students.
Their recommendations are based on their findings, having sometimes spent several weeks with gas students. Their comments never relate to the gas related knowledge of the students as this is always sound, more-so with other basic skills that students have not picked up because they are not experienced plumbers or similar.
Throughout this Site-Skills course which is predominantly practical, we will endeavour to cover training in the most common aspects of gas and plumbing related work so that you are completely prepared for most eventualities, providing you with the essential skills for working on pipe-work in industry
The course will cover:
- How an open vented heating and hot water system works
- How to drain down and decommission the systems
- How to convert open vented heating systems to a sealed heating system
- How to mark out the position of a boiler using a boiler template
- How to drill a hole through masonry for the boiler flue and fix a boiler jig to a masonry wall
- How to assemble, mark out and hang radiators
- How to lift correctly, mark out and notch floor joists
- How to install both copper and plastic pipework under a suspended floor
- How to fill and vent a system of air
Domestic Gas Training Details
An in depth 3 week course covering flues, ventilation, combustion and controls providing the candidate with the necessary knowledge to undertake the statutory core gas safety assessment. The course is intended for operatives with plumbing, heating, pipefitting or similar skills which can be transferred to the gas industry.
The course is recognised by Gas safe under their qualification requirements for entry on to the ACS scheme. This Managed Learning programme provides both theory and practical training.
This course is designed for those who are not working with or for a Gas safe registered engineer/business and who do not have sufficient knowledge to build the work portfolio before attending the course. The format and content of the work portfolio is covered during the induction.
This 3 week long Gas course is essential training and assessment for all candidates looking to gain access to the Gas Industry.
Week 1 of this Gas Training Course will provide you with a great insight into the Gas industry and present you with an understanding of the guidelines and regulations which currently govern the ACS scheme.
During this week of gas training, we will cover basic pipework skills, gas appliance functions and the basic principles of flues and combustion to give candidates the knowledge required to move forward to the next aspect of this Gas course.
At the end of this initial 5 days of gas training, you will undertake a written assessment/multiple choice exam to establish your understanding of the areas that have been covered so far.
Weeks 2 and 3
As you progress through the weeks, the gas course will develop and you will receive training in:
2. Tightness Testing
3. Pipework requirements
4. Gas safety controls
Again, you will undertake a series of exams and practical assessments to satisfy your instructor that you fully understand all the areas covered at this stage.
Finally, we will provide you with training in:
3. Unsafe situations
And with time permitting, we will provide extra training in the servicing of various appliances.
Able Skills will place you alongside a Gas Safe registered Engineer who will supervise the work which you undertake on gas appliances. He will also sign off the work you have undertaken, take photographs of the work and provide general guidance in order to complete the portfolio of experience.
This placement is most likely to be with Able On-Time Services which is the sister company of Able Skills. This company has been put together specifically for the purposes of supporting Able Skills students with any required work based assessments or competency requirements. Able On-Time Services is managed by Able Skills but all employees are ex-Able Skills students.
ACS Gas Assessment
The final hurdle involves an assessment process back at Able Skills Gas Assessment Centre. This is where everything you have learned will be put to the test in order for you to achieve ACS. You will undergo exams and assessments in order to achieve CCN1 - Core Gas Safety and whatever appliances you are eligible for - this will be determined by the work recorded in your work based portfolio.

I took the 5 day intensive plumbing course and it was hands on straight away which was great. I learnt so much more than I expected to. Mikes a great teacher and gave us practical, realistic tips and advice too. Great course!
I found Able Skills online. I did my research and found them to be the most professional. The course was value for money and met with all my expectations. They offered good concise information in a relaxed environment. I will be recommending Able Skills to others. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and may consider another course in the future.
I attended the City & Guilds 6035 Level 2 Plumbing Course. The course was 6 weeks and during this time the Tutor was very good, very experienced with a lot of real-life knowledge rather than purely book. They offer a good environment and facilities. I would consider training there again and would recommend them to anyone considering Plumbing or construction training.
I took the C&G Level 2 6035 Plumbing course. I have been wanting to do this course for ages, was more than happy with every part of the course, from the theory to all the practical. I have learnt so so much and didn’t realise how in depth and technical plumbing is until I started. It was all made easier across the board from the patience and teaching of Jim Singleton, I have never met someone with so much knowledge, he made the whole experience fun as well as informative.
The C&G 6035 Plumbing course was value for money and met with all my expectations. Good tuition, Jim was like an open book, but at the same time didn’t spoon feed me. He made me have to understand the principle of system, not just know it.
I took the 8 week plumbing City & Guilds Level 2 course, it was brilliant! The instructor of the course was very kind and helpful. I really enjoyed my time during the 8 weeks I trained with Able Skills. I would recommend them to others and consider taking another course with them.
I took the 5 day plumbing course. I chose Able Skills because they had a good price for training and excellent feedback.
I found the training to be very useful. Mick was a very helpful instructor and went out of his way to explain any additional elements required which are generally not covered in the course.
Able skills seemed to be the most comprehensive when comparing training centres online. The 5 day introduction to plumbing course offered a huge amount of practical skills in a relatively short period of time. A great course for practical understanding of domestic plumbing, value for money and i would certainly consider their other courses.
I took the 5 day plumbing course after a friend recommended them to me. The trainer was friendly and extremely helpful with all aspects of the course. The facilities are good and I feel like the content of the course was suitable for the aims. I will be recommending.
Joseph B – 8 week 6129 Plumbing Course
Jim was an excellent tutor, very understanding – I learned a lot from him and will certainly be recommending him to family and friends. I would not change one thing about my course, keep up the good work!
Richard P – Homestudy 6129 Plumbing Course
Able Skills were my choice of training centre due to the value for money and the flexibility offered for training. I choose the homestudy option which allows me to study at my own pace, when I am ready to complete an assessment or exam I can choose which week I train which makes it easier for me with work commitments. Whilst in the centre I make a lot of progress and really enjoy the week!
I took the C&G Plumbing Course. I found Able Skills through the CTP Website. I Chose to train with them as I had heard good things about them from my colleague. The course was value for money . Coming from a different background, I initially found the course difficult. My Instructor was Jim, and he helped me a lot. When I got the basics right, everything flowed smoothly. I will definitely come back for more courses and recommend to others.
I heard about Able Skills through a family member. They were the most recognised training centre and were willing to help. As I was totally new to the plumbing course, I found the instructor Jim to be excellent. He managed to teach beginners like myself and others with some plumbing knowledge effortlessly. His skills were always on top. It’s all about understanding not just doing. Thank you Jim.
I took the Plumbing Course C&G 6129 with Jim Singleton. I heard about Able Skills through my Brother. Jim was a great instructor and had excellent knowledge of all plumbing work. Thank you again Jim for your 8 weeks of hard work. P.s I will be back.
The facilities are excellent and the accommodation is very reasonable. Jim is an excellent teacher and has a lot of knowledge. His teaching methods are excellent and he was very helpful, down to earth and I could not get through the course without his expertise. The office staff were also very friendly and helpful. Thanks Jim for your expertise and patience through the course.
I found Able Skills through Google. I did consider another training provider, but was put off due to their pushy sales team. Able Skills were very friendly and informative on the phone, they were happy for me to make my mind up, whereas the other company hassled me for money. Important factors for me to consider when choosing the right facility was location, price and the ability to add Part P electrics to the end of my course. The course was value for money and met with all my expectations. The facilities here are very good and it’s nice to have your own bay to work in. There’s a lot of kit to play with which is far better than just reading in a book. The course was very informative and Jim is an excellent Tutor. He takes the time to show you how to do something and explain things in layman’s terms. He is excellent at getting the information across and making sense of the book, without Jims explanation the book is a quick reference tool. I’m sure all the other course tutors are just as good but I am very pleased that Jim taught me. He is a wealth of knowledge and easy to talk to. I can’t fault the way Able Skills operates as it seems to run excellently. The course is very good and the classroom time is just enough. I will definitely consider using Able Skills again in the future for other trades I feel would benefit myself. I would not hesitate to recommend Able Skills and Jim to anyone else tahts looking to start up in plumbing.
Jim Singleton was my tutor, his style of teaching both practical and in the classroom was clear and concise. He covered all aspects of the course in great detail and had a knack of making it all easy to understand. His practical knowledge and teaching skills are a real asset and credit to Able Skills. “A Great Teacher”. The course was value for money and met with my expectations. I would recommend you take a visit to their premises and meet with the tutors and staff. I would definitely recommend them to others.
My instructor Toby was very good. He gave me some good knowledge of the plumbing skills required to undertake some home projects. I am overall very happy. The course was value for money and I will be recommending to others.
I found Able Skills online and decided to train with them as they were easily accessible. My tutor Toby was very good. He was informative and explained everything thoroughly. My advanced 5 day plumbing course was fantastic.
I was sent to Able Skills via my work. I took the 1 week Advanced Plumbing course. The week was fantastic. What I have gained in knowledge has increased my confidence tenfold to be able to go into the field and fix leads. I would overall rate Able Skills as excellent.
I considered using other training centers initially, but chose Able Skills as they were the best one around. The course was value for money and I would recommend them to anyone. Keep up the good standards and you will not be out of work, well done and thank you.
I learnt as much in 5 days as I could have wanted. Able Skills have a variety of different courses on offer and I would attend another training course with them. The course was value for money and met with all my expectations.
I enjoyed the course, thank you very much. I would attend other courses. I felt this was the best use for my money.

Richard was a really good tutor. He helped me to understand a lot of plumbing issues I have had over the years. He is a great asset to the Able Skills team. I would not hesitate to recommend the course.
I found the instructor to be excellent and helpful at all times. I learnt a lot in the two weeks course and would like to compliment the tutor Roy for his great tuition.

The location of the training centre was excellent for me. Toby was very a very efficient, knowledgeable and helpful tutor. All materials were stocked at all times and tools in good condition which allowed me to complete tasks easier.
Top instructions from the Tutor. Simon gave me a lot of good advice. I would definitely recommend the course to friends. The course met my expectations and I would attend other training courses at Able Skills.
The level of instruction is second to none. The facilities and knowledge is what you can expect from a first class provider. I will and have recommended you toother service leavers looking into this field. The top tips provided by Roy were very helpful and gave a good insight into plumbing.
I took the five days intense course which offered plenty of hands on experience. It was an excellent course and value for money. Many thanks!
I had already completed 8 weeks of plumbing with Able Skills and found it to be a really good course and the staff was nice and helpful so I chose to do the electrics as well. Brian is excellent, very patient and calm. He also has really good subject knowledge. Thanks!
6129 Plumbing Feedback
I chose Able Skills because of flexibility of course and payments. I was very pleased with the course because of the structure it had. The most important thing to me was the fact I could train whenever I had time and the pay as you train system worked very well. I would have no hesitation to recommend Able Skills to anyone.
I did look around at other training centres before I chose able Skills. I was put off by them because they wanted to ‘interview’ me. Able Skills just invited me to have a look and make my own choice. Jim singleton, the instructor, knows it all and can put things across with courtesy and patience. He is a complete professional. A great tutor.
Jim was very helpful in the theory side of the course and very thorough on the practical tasks, which will help when on-site. He can be very strict at times but it is only for my own benefit which I am grateful for.
I thought the course was really informative in practical work. Use of tools come with great knowledge of tutors who were excellent. All the tutors were polite and helpful when asked any questions.
I chose Able Skills after I had a visit to them and had spoken to the instructor himself. Able Skills is a relaxed environment that really helps when you are studying. The tutors are friendly and willing to help even if they are not part of your department. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience.
The course was local and reasonably priced, I thought. Able Skills has a professional environment with well-educated instructors. An all-round enjoyable experience which helped me gain the required skills to be a plumber.
The standard and content of the course was all of a very high standard. All the relevant information was passed on in a way it made complete sense.
I thought the course and instructor Jim, was excellent. It met and exceeded all expectations. The quality of training was second to none.
I chose able skills because it’s close to me house and I knew some people who had done the bricklaying course and said it was good. Very friendly place. Everyone approachable and gives good reasonable answers. Instructors are clear and well explained. I can’t fault it!

Able skills provide good training for the learner. I think this is one of the best course providers and is definitely value for money.
Jim was a great tutor; he was very helpful and gave a lot of good advice. I have learnt a great deal in a short time and I am very happy with the course.
Jim was an excellent tutor that was very patient and really helped me and let me work things out and made the classroom a pleasure for me. I would not have got through this course without his support and guidance. P.S. He is genuinely a nice guy and very clever.
I found this course to be structured very well and have gained a vast amount of knowledge in plumbing. Jim, the instructor, was always very helpful and wanting to pass on his knowledge. This was an enjoyable course which has achieved its aim of giving me the fundamentals in plumbing principles and practical skills.
I have loved every minute of the course. I was really nervous on my first day, but the tutors made me feel at ease. I can’t thank everyone enough who has helped me along the way. The tutors and all the staff are so helpful and can’t do enough for anyone.
I think the course was well explained and structured; classroom work was never at saturation point and the breaks ample. Instructor was at times very patient and never felt to be unapproachable. He gave good pointers on things I may have been wrong or on points I could have improved upon. I consider I will be leaving here with a good base of knowledge to the plumbing trade and all I need now is experience.
When I was making my decision on where to train, I decided to visit Able Skills in person. When I got there, the owner, Gary, showed me around the whole centre and answered all my questions. I was pleased he did not tray and pressure me into paying a deposit. I was impressed with the facilities I saw and the level of instruction given to the students so I signed up. During my time at Able Skills I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful and I am happy to be going back in October to start my Gas.
I was looking for training centres on the internet and I saw Able Skills I looked on their website and then once looking there and seeing what they have to offer I didn’t think to go anywhere else. I liked the fact that they offered an NVQ .toby was very good throughout and also the office staff for making the payments and accommodation.
I heard about Able Skills on the internet, I choose to train with Able Skills because it is close to my home. Throughout the teaching was at an excellent standard and students were made to feel relaxed and involved as part of a team. Help and advice was always at hand. Best of luck in the future to all involved
I found Able Skills on the internet I didn’t consider training anywhere else, I like at Able Skills that they offer accommodation for those who have to travel. More than happy with both practical and theory sessions, Toby was patient and attentive to all of those in the class. I also found him to be good at motivating on the harder tasks. The facilities and accommodation were excellent as were the staff in the office.
I had considered other training centres but I choose Able Skills because they seemed friendlier and professional. At Able Skills they have really good tutors and they are flexible with both payments and that you can train at the weekends. Without Toby’s knowledge it would have been so much more difficult .BANG ON.
I took the 3 week Domestic to Gas change over course. I heard able Able Skills through a friend.
My Tutor was one of the best since I started any form of Education, in fact, maybe he is the best. The course itself met with all my expectations and was certainly value for money. I would definitely recommend them to others looking for Construction Training,
I phoned several training centres for quotes for commercial Gas training and found Able Skills offered the most comprehensive course for a fair price. The office staff were very helpful and explained what the course was all about. Able Skills were willing to give me the opportunity to stop the course and restart it after I received news that a friend of mine had passed away. I felt that I was treated as a person and that the college are interested and care about their students. I give them an overall rating of excellent and would definitely attend further training with them.
I found Able Skills on the internet and liked the look of their centre. The staff were extremely friendly too and it was this that encouraged me to train here. Ian Welthy was an excellent teacher, I have already recommended Able Skills to friends and encourage anyone else to contact them regarding Gas training.
I took the Gas Managed Learning Programme. I decided to study with Able Skills because of their price and excellent recommendations. My Instructor Roy is a fantastic “Diamond Geezer”. The course far exceeded all my expectations. Roy was very detailed in his explanations, sometimes going beyond what was expected in the course manuals just so we were all clear. The course materials and practical sessions were also an excellent match. Thank you.
Price and distance were important to me when deciding where to train for my 3 week gas course. Roy was very informative and a great teacher. I learnt what I needed and more due to his experience. I would definitely consider training with them for other courses and would recommend them to others.
I chose Able Skills to take my Gas Managed Learning Programme as they had excellent recommendations. I have encountered many trainers and Roy is excellent. Able Skills come highly recommended, Roy makes it easier in training because he teaches properly.
Able Skills offer a clean working environment. The centre is well managed, their facilities are excellent. I will be coming back for more courses and recommending them to others.
Darren King has been a top lecturer, highly recommended!! Cheers Darren. I found Able Skills on the internet and decided to use them because of the cost and distance.
I was referred to Able Skills by a family friend. They were very helpful on the phone when I called up and this prompted me to take their course. Their instructor Darren King was extremely good at breaking down stuff and making it more understandable. I had an enjoyable time and many laughs whilst training. I would definitely recommend. I am now taking my Gas Portfolio placement through them.
I have just completed the 3 week gas safety course through Able Skills. They had the best price and best explained on the phone by John when I initially enquired. Found on the internet, decided to use their weekend option. The course was very informative and at an easy pace.
Due to the excellent quality of the tutors and course plans, I have gained confidence in my skills and will continue taking able skills training courses in the future.
I came to Able Skills because they were highly recommended and I thought they seemed to be good value for money. Roy made the course enjoyable whilst keeping things safe and informative. Excellent tutor!
Great course with a vast amount of information from the instructors with brilliant knowledge. Thanks!

All the staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. Darren was a very knowledgeable tutor who inspired confidence in me as a student. He was always very professional and approachable whenever I had queries/questions/doubts about anything. He was always willing to help. Most of all, Darren made 3 weeks on a gas course enjoyable and was an absolute pleasure being tutored by him.

I found Able Skills on the internet. I had considered other centres but I choose Able Skills because they had the best feedback. I choose Able Skills because they had the best facilities out of all the centres that I looked at and that they didn’t have pushy sales people they just helped me decide what my best option was. Ian and Daren were very good tutors and they helped me where ever possible. The accommodation was amazing for the price. At Able Skills they have amazing facilities; my overall experience at Able Skills was excellent.

Even though I had considered other training company’s, Able Skills sounded better and friendlier. It was a very enjoyable course both Ian and Darren really helped me and i enjoyed the fact that i had two tutors because they both gave different options which really helped me. I had a great time at Able Skills.
Tom Davey– Gas Training Course
I all ready knew about Able Skills though word and mouth and I also looked on the internet to find out more information, didn’t think to go anywhere else because my friend did a course with Able Skills and said that it was really good. I was given a folder at the beginning of the course and they were very clear and helpful, they were easy to interpret better than a book and they still had all the relevant information. Both of my tutors were excellent and i liked that they gave me two different views

Simon was a very good teacher and had excellent knowledge and patients. I choose to study at Able Skills due to the proximity to where I live.
Able Skills has grown and so has the amount of students in attendance and we are being used by everyone right across the UK and abroad.
As a result of the increase in students, Able Skills has purchased 3 properties to accommodate the growing numbers of people travelling from distance.
Able Skills properties are licensed HMO (Houses in Multiple Occupation) and are fully equipped in line with local authority standards.
The properties will provide you with your own fully furnished room with washing facilities and TV. There are several bathrooms/WCs as well as fully fitted kitchens and a dining areas to eat and/or meet your fellow students.
Able Skills employs someone to maintain the properties on a regular basis and also to ensure that the property is being looked after by those staying.
We are very pleased to be able to offer this accommodation at £20 per night and we are keen to ensure that your time away from home is enjoyable and comfortable. The properties are situated close to all of our training centres and some have allocated private parking facilities.
This enables you to leave your vehicle in a safe and secure environment and make that short walk to whichever course you are attending.
We are a very popular choice of training centre and as a result we are very busy and so is our accommodation. We would recommend that you make every attempt to tie in any accommodation requirements at the time of booking your course.
If our accommodation is full, there are other local alternatives available which range from £20 per night upwards.
During your stay at Able Skills accommodation we will guarantee you a secure area to keep all of your belongings and additionally, we guarantee that the only people using this property are Able Skills students.
