City & Guilds 6089 Level 2 NVQ

Whether you are new to the Plumbing industry or an experienced, time served Plumber, Able Skills has the approval and staff in place to support and assess you should you be looking to gain qualifications, specifically your Plumbing NVQ at level 2.

Plumbing NVQ

To achieve a Plumbing NVQ (6089) you will need to be assessed by collating a portfolio of Plumbing work evidence that demonstrates your competence against the performance requirements. An assessor determines whether you have reached the required level to be awarded a Plumbing NVQ.

Are you eligible to enrol onto a Plumbing NVQ programme?

Those looking to achieve Plumbing NVQs usually fall into the following categories:

1. New Entrants – No Existing Plumbing Qualifications

If you are new to the Plumbing industry and your aim is to achieve a Plumbing NVQ, Able Skills can help you to achieve your goal. The first thing you must do is learn how to be a competent Plumber and this will involve undertaking training and assessment to achieve City & Guilds 6129 Plumbing Technical Certificate at level 2.

This qualification is a pre-requisite (for the NVQ) for those of you new to the industry. The City & guilds 6129 will provide you with a comprehensive understanding in all areas of plumbing and give you good grounding to move into the industry. 2. New and Existing Plumbers – Holding Existing Plumbing Qualifications

In order to qualify and register for this plumbing NVQ, the following criteria must be met:

•    You must work within a 60 mile radius of Dartford – Postcode: DA1.
•    You must have achieved in full, City & Guilds 6129
•    You  will need to be employed in a role that is related to plumbing

If you find yourself within the category as listed above, you will be able to enrol with Able Skills to commence your NVQ Plumbing Qualification. In order to do this, you will need to arrange an induction session with one of Able Skills Plumbing Assessors.

The Assessor will provide you with all of the materials required to record details of your Plumbing NVQ progress and an action plan for site assessments will be put into place. After this, it is up to you to complete portfolio evidence, maintain contact with your assessor and arrange visits when you deem that a plumbing job you are undertaking meets all of the required criteria for an Assessment to take place.

If appropriate, you can discuss the possibility of using a Workplace recorder to support the assessment process. This must be someone who is employed by your employer and who is technically competent with a formal plumbing qualification or with at least 5 years proven experience. Any assigned workplace recorders will liaise directly with your NVQ Assessor.

The work based Plumbing assessments will be to establish your competence in

•    Maintain the Safe Working Environment when Undertaking Work Activities.
•    Maintain Effective Plumbing Working Relationships.
•    Contribute to the Improvement of the P Work Environment.
•    Install Non-complex Plumbing Systems and Components.
•    Decommission Non-complex Plumbing Systems Portfolio.
•    Maintain Non-complex Plumbing Systems and Components.

There is no set time period for completing the Plumbing NVQ, as this will be dependent on the type of plumbing work that the candidate undertakes.

3. Time Served Plumbers – No Existing Plumbing Qualifications

Existing Plumbers – defined as candidates who do not have a formal qualification but have completed a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the Plumbing industry can access the Plumbing NVQ directly.

To be considered for this fast track route and work based assessments:

•    You must work within a 60 mile radius of Dartford – Postcode: DA1.
•    You  will need to be employed in a role that is related to plumbing

Without Plumbing qualifications to act as evidence of your skills and knowledge, Able Skills will need to evaluate your suitability for the Plumbing NVQ directly by implementing a system to check your Plumbing history and to do this you will be required to attend an induction with an Able Skills Assessor to discuss your plumbing history.

In addition, you will be required to provide us with a comprehensive CV with full contact details of previous employers, clients etc. Able Skills Assessor will take steps to authenticate your CV and confirm that you have a proven track record within the plumbing industry.

Once the Assessor is confident that you are ready to undertake Assessment for the Plumbing NVQ, he will then provide you with all of the materials required to record details of your NVQ progress and an action plan for plumbing site assessments will be put into place.

After this, it is up to you to complete portfolio evidence, maintain contact with your assessor and arrange visits when you deem that a plumbing job you are undertaking meets all of the required criteria.

The work based assessments will be to establish your competence in

•    Maintain the Safe Working Environment when Undertaking Work Activities.
•    Maintain Effective Plumbing Working Relationships.
•    Contribute to the Improvement of the P Work Environment.
•    Install Non-complex Plumbing Systems and Components.
•    Decommission Non-complex Plumbing Systems Portfolio.
•    Maintain Non-complex Plumbing Systems and Components.

These fees will cover registration and certification costs and up to 6 workplace visits

Should you not achieve the Plumbing NVQ within the 6 visits, there may be a requirement for you to meet the cost of any additional visits. These will be charged separately at £250 per day.
