Progression Training leading to City & Guilds Plumbing Course 6129 Level 2

2 Week Plumbing Course, progressing to City & Guilds Level 2: 6129

Able Skills is offering you the opportunity to undertake 2 weeks of plumbing training whereby certain practical assessed tasks from the 6129 City & Guilds qualification are included.

This course differs slightly from our Intensive and Advanced courses in that it gives you the option to progress.

If you decide at a later date to enrol onto the 6129 plumbing programme then the time required to complete the full award will be reduced to 8 weeks instead of the other option of 10 weeks which we advertise.

The flexibility of this training arrangement is such that you have up to 18 months following your 2 weeks plumbing course to decide if you want to progress to a career within the plumbing industry and undertake the full award of the Level 2 6129 plumbing certificate.

During these 2 weeks you will undergo practical plumbing training which will incorporate several units relating to copper tube, Airing cupboard installation, safety and routine maintenance. You will be assessed on these areas and will build a portfolio of photographic evidence and if you choose to progress at a later stage to the 6129 plumbing course, these particular plumbing assessed units will not have to be retaken.

Your 10 days of plumbing training will include the following:

First 5 days

Practical health and safety
Plumbing systems and fittings
Soldering techniques
Jointing, bending and pressure testing copper tube
Plumbing pipe work
Copper pipe work skills
Valves, taps, cisterns, and cylinders
Plastic Tube installation
Plumbing systems
Domestic plumbing systems
Bathroom installation
Soil and waste pipes
Installing Radiators
Fault Finding

Second 5 days

Running flow & return from boiler
Fitting 36x18 indirect cylinder
Fitting cold water storage tank
Fitting feed & expansion tank
Fitting motorised valves & pump
Running flow & return to radiators
Understanding wiring of heating systems
Micro-bore central heating
Sealed systems

Progression with Able Skills:
As stated before, these 2 weeks will not qualify you as a plumber on their own but they are a contribution towards the City & Guilds 6129 qualification should you decide to take that route. Having completed our plumbing courses, you will have obtained many skills which will make completion of the City & Guilds 6129 plumbing course much quicker to complete and with confidence.

This qualification is industry standard and is a basis for progression to a variety of work paths.
This 2 week training option is giving you choice as well as time to decide if a career in plumbing is what you want. In undertaking this option, you will have secured your registration with City & Guilds, you will also be provided with the 6129 recommended reading material – Plumbing NVQ and Technical Certificate Level 2 by JTL.

This book will guide you through any plumbing tasks you decide to undertake but at the same time, it will develop your plumbing knowledge which will stand you in good stead should you take the decision to complete the full plumbing award.

The cost for our 2 weeks of plumbing training reflects City & Guilds registration fees, reading material and portfolio building. This is definitely the option to consider if you believe that a career in plumbing will eventually be the route for you.
