City & Guilds 6129 Level 2 Home Study

In tabloids, magazines and on TV, there are various statistics banded about  relating to the ‘demand for qualified Plumbers’, ‘UKs shortage of Plumbers’ etc etc etc…..

The long and short of it is that Plumbers will always be a very much in demand trade; at some stage in someone’s life, they will need to call a Plumber and Able Skills wants to make you the Plumber that they call.

Able Skills is an established, approved City & Guilds Training Centre and as such, is able to offer you the opportunity to obtain the City & Guilds 6129 – Plumbing Technical Certificate at level 2. The current industry recognised entry level to the plumbing sector is the C&G 6129.

This course will provide you with the underpinning knowledge required to move forward to the NVQ Level 2 (6089) which can be achieved once in the work place. The 6129 is an essential part of your plumbing future.

If you choose, you can opt to be assessed on site with a view to obtaining an NVQ (C&G 6089). Able Skills has NVQ assessors in place who can support you whilst you are working within the industry and assess you in your workplace.

We are very much aware that not everyone can drop everything and embark on an intensive 8 or 10 week Plumbing programme and so to deal with this, we have devised our very own Home Study Plumbing package.

Home Study/Distance Learning/Blended Learning basically means that you are not tied to a training timetable and that you have the luxury of learning at home!

Able Skills home learning package has been put together by experts in the trade, not only time served and qualified Plumbers but guys who have delivered Plumbing qualifications for many years and know exactly the right blend of information and training required to provide you with City & Guilds Plumbing 6129 Technical Certificate – The recognised entry to the Plumbing industry.

This Plumbing course package has been arranged to allow you to learn at your own pace and in your own time. A perfectly put together learning programme to allow you the benefit of retraining for a career change whilst remaining in your current paid employment.

Simple steps to take to complete this Plumbing qualification

Step 1

Theory Training: A comprehensive, non complicated Plumbing manual to take you through each of the required modules which together, make up the City & Guilds 6129 at level 2. Beautifully Illustrated and simply put together, you will work through the manual at your own pace and in whatever order you choose.

There is self assessment along the way to monitor progress, support DVDs to see how the experts do it and reference material as added support. We have a forum for enquiries and you can also email or call to speak to Plumbing Instructors to clarify any information you are unsure of.

Step 2

Practical Training: This level 2 Plumbing qualification cannot be completed without practical tasks being undertaken and assessed. We do not expect you to be competent Plumbers based on reading a Plumbing manual and so practical assessments are mandatory to demonstrate and test your practical skills. A portfolio of training evidence is also built as you move through the various Plumbing modules.

Practical Plumbing Training

The practical plumbing aspect of this qualification will be available in 5 separate weekly training blocks to cover various modules and of course, there are on line exams in place as additional confirmation that you are competent in each of the following mandatory units:

•    Health & Safety.
•    Key Plumbing Principles.
•    Common Plumbing Principles.
•    Cold Water Systems.
•    Domestic Hot Water Systems.
•    Sanitation / Above Ground Discharge Pipework Systems only.
•    Central Heating Systems – Pipework.
•    Electrical Systems.
•    Sheet Lead Weathering.
•    Environmental Awareness.
•    Effective Working Relationships

Where to start…………..Week 1!

When you embark on this home study package and you are confident in your understanding of the Plumbing principles obtained in the Home Study manual, your next step will be to arrange your first visit to Able Skills. We will use Week 1 to confirm your registration onto this programme, assess your understanding so far and get some of those practical assessments underway.

Weeks 2 - 5

After this, you will have the benefit of attending for your remaining *4 weeks, at your leisure. This is not a race, your time limit is 5 years although we are totally confident that if you have the time available to you, the entire award can be completed in much less.

Remember, your manual will offer continual support throughout.

You can choose the order of your assessments, there are no rules regarding what to do first although Able Skills instructors will give guidance and recommendations. The whole point of Blended Learning is that you choose and are not put under any unnecessary pressure.

* Weekends may be available to complete some units – advice on this will be provided by Able Skills Plumbing Instructors at Week 1

Payment Plans

An added bonus provided by Able Skills is that you pay when you train; there is no huge initial outlay to get you up and running.

Payment 1

This will be for your Home Study Manual, DVDs and reference material @ £495.00

Payment 2 – 6

For each week you attend Able Skills you will pay £500.00 when you book a particular week.

All prices include VAT and the total price will not exceed *£2995.00
