Specialist 10 day Plastering Courses from Able Skills
Able Skills has designed this specialist plastering course for those plasterers who are new to the trade and who would like to learn other, more specific areas of plastering to be able to offer a fuller service of plastering skills. This course is not suited to anyone who hasn’t plastered before and is ideal for those of you who have undertaken a 3 or 6 week City & Guilds plastering course. This course may also be suitable to those of you who have attended Able Skills previously to complete our 15 day plastering and rendering course.
This specialist plastering course will take you through all that you need to know and learn to enable you to deal with more complex areas which are very common in every day plastering.
The course has been designed by all 3 of our plastering instructors who have each known what it is like to be new to the industry and know what it feels like when you are unsure of something. The aim of this training is to ensure that there are very few plastering jobs which you will be unable to price for and to ensure that any you do tackle, you do so with confidence.
We are aiming for reality and so the course has been devised to cover how to cope with tighter areas such as under staircases and stair walls, how to cope with small arches forming to doorways, larger arched openings, splayed ceilings and bullseye windows.
During the course we will also explain and demonstrate various rendering systems. We will cover Monocouche renders which produce a coloured decorative finish. This modern choice of render is popular because over time, it requires minimal maintenance and can be finished in various formats including scraped with ashlar joints, stone or textured, all of these decorative finishes will be taught during this specialist plastering course.
Progression at Able Skills
This particular specialist course will enable you to undertake much more in the way of plastering and will expand your marketing ability. As a plasterer new to the industry, you will be keen to expand your skills and may well be looking to the future and obtaining NVQs etc.
To qualify for an NVQ you need to be competent in all areas of plastering and you need to have been working within that industry for at least 3 years. Your NVQ can be obtained via OSAT which will identify any training requirements you have and could possibly qualify for funding. Undertaking this particular specialist plastering course will cut down any additional training requirements later on in your career and hopefully, see you sail through the NVQ process.
This course will also provide you with training in how to price a job, how to quantify materials, using the best materials for the best results etc. All of this kind of information is priceless for when you start work and will also be very useful for any portfolio evidence used to obtain an NVQ. PPE and all aspects of health and safety, clean working areas etc will also be reiterated throughout the training to get you into good working practices and ensuring your understanding of this will add heavily to your ability to achieve NVQs.
As you come across various plastering jobs it is always advisable to maintain records of the work, witness testimonies, photographic evidence and so on. All of what you do whilst in the working environment could count as evidence towards any qualification you may embark on at a later stage in your plastering career.
At Able Skills we want to be able to move all of our students forward and prepare you all for the reality of working as plasterers. We offer fantastic qualifications in plastering and this course will just act as an add on when you are ready and will deliver that bit of reality which will prepare you for work out there in the real world.
If you are lucky enough to have plastering work readily available to you then you have the option to use Able Skills registered NVQ assessors to help and guide you towards an NVQ once you feel ready and confident to tackle the required units.
