BPEC Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Courses
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) sees Photovoltaic (PV) systems as an essential part of Government energy policy and supports the recognition of qualified personnel within this initiative. There is now a huge drive towards this kind of renewable energy which will contribute to lowering emissions.
Photovoltaic (PV) systems generate no greenhouse gases; a typical domestic system can save approximately 1.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) uses energy from the sun to create electricity to run appliances and lighting. Photovoltaic (PV) systems use cells to convert solar radiation into electricity. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers, causing electricity to flow, the greater the intensity of the light, the greater the flow of electricity.
Our aim at Able Skills is to make training in this subject as accessible as possible which is why we deliver 3 versions, all with differing pre-requisites:
• City & Guilds 2372
• NICEIC Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
• BPEC Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
Training and Assessment for these particular awards is undertaken in Able Skills dedicated Renewable Technology training centre.
BPEC (British Plumbing Employers Council) have spent a considerable amount of time developing this particular Photovoltaic course, working closely with a number of industry experts to ensure its relevance in today’s market place. The result is a comprehensive Photovoltaic (PV) Installers course which is accessible and competitive on cost.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) forms a key technology set within the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), which offers government grants for the installation of Microgeneration based products and systems.
The introduction of Feed in Tariffs (FITs), the government backed support measure, has been designed to increase awareness within the public and has directly increased the amount of installations.
This is a growing market and there will be an increasing need for qualified installers over the next 10 years.

BPEC Solar Photovoltaic Pre-Requisites
This course requires the following pre-requisites:-
• City and Guilds 2382-10 or City and Guilds 2382-20 (17th edition wiring regulations)
• Accredited Full/Defined Scope qualification and registered with a conforming body
• A knowledge of inspection & testing (C&G 2392 or 2391)
If you do not have these pre-requisites please call us to discuss as we are able to provide training and assessment to meet your needs in our dedicated Electrical Centre’s. If you are not sure if your qualifications meet the entry requirements, please call us where we can advise you accordingly.
The Bpec Solar course covers:
• Green energy and environmental impact
• Types of solar PV
• System design and specification
• Testing PV systems
• Commissioning PV systems
• Fault finding
• Maintenance
• Government grants and funding bodies
• Practical Installation experience
The course is delivered over 4 days and will also cover MCS and CPS, on grid installations and off grid installations, linking PV in with other renewable technologies. There is a healthy balance of theory and practical work to ensure everyone’s learning needs are catered for.
Training for BPEC Solar PV Courses eligibility
If you have an interest in installing photovoltaic systems but you cannot meet BPECs entry requirements, Able Skills can offer training for Part P (Full scope), C&G 2382 17th Edition, C&G 2392 Fundamental Inspection & Testing and C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing.
