Able Skills Intensive 5 day Floor Screeding and Tanking Course

Able Skills has developed additional tiling and plastering related courses to help existing tradesmen, especially Tilers, increase their potential. With these additional skills, you will be able to complete all aspects of any job that you take on, offering a wider range of skills

We have devised a 5 day course which will cover floor screeding and tanking. This will enable you to cover other necessary aspects before tiling the allocated area.

We have specific designated areas in order to complete these training courses; these are located within Able Skills dedicated Tiling Training Centre.

These combined courses are available Monday – Friday or split over 2 weekends. If you only want to cover one aspect of this course, this is available during the week or for 1 weekend.

Floor Screeding

This 3 day course will be useful to Tilers looking to be able to cover all necessary and required aspects when undertaking work within wet rooms or walk in showers. As well as being able to tile the area, you can now learn to prepare your floors to receive tiles. After completing this course you will have the confidence and ability to ensure a perfect finish and enable you to tile the floor to perfection.

During this 3 day course you will be taught how to obtain the correct gradients should you be looking to complete wet rooms or walk in showers or to get floors flat and level to a finish.

We will take you through floor screeding on new or alteration contracts to include:

Calculating the quantities of materials required
Gauging and mixing of screeding materials
Transferring datum levels
Preparing background areas, brushed and bonded
Positioning screeding battens/screeds
Laying and finishing floor screeds level and to falls
Incorporating drainage inlets

We will also advise on the available types and purpose of damp proof membranes, self levelling compounds, associated drainage items, screeding equipment, laser levels, and tools required to complete the work competently and accurately.

Tanking

Tiling in wet areas such as shower cubicles can often be a problem as there is always an element of doubt that if you apply your tiles onto plasterboard or marine ply board in wet areas, that you could encounter a failed tiled installation, in other words, the tiles may fall off after a short period of time costing you financially for the repair.

This Tanking course will show you how to eliminate this problem.

We will show you how to apply specified tanking systems to these wet areas (prior to tiling) which will extinguish any doubt and ensure a tiled installation which will not fail.

We will go through the system of applying tanking systems from start to finish so that when you have completed your course at Able Skills you will be capable of tiling in wet areas with confidence.

As you will be tiling the area after having completed the tanking system, we require that you have some tiling background or have attended a tiling training course at Able Skills.

CAA ICA NVQ Level 2 Tiling

This is a hands-on, practical course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout the course. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.

At the end of these courses you will receive an Able Skills Certificate of completion; this may assist you in gaining employment at a later stage.
