Marie Botten (Painting and Decorating)

C&G 6217-03 Painting & Decorating: August/September 2008

This is my second course that I have undertaken at Able Skills. Firstly the 5 day plastering course and now the 4 week City & Guilds painting & decorating course.

Both courses have been excellent value for money. I've come away each time feeling confident enough to want to now take my knowledge further and now go self-employed and excel in what I've learnt!

I would recommend Able Skills as a training centre to everyone; the teachers have great knowledge and are so helpful and informative. They deliver the course in such an easy way to understand and at a pace that you can enjoy and take it all in.

I'm looking forward to booking my next course here

Paul Morris (Plumbing)

6129 / Part P / Gas: March/April/May/June/July 2008 2008

After completing a full career within the military and then attending Able Skills to obtain another trade. I found that the combined experience of the instructors within the construction industry ensured that I had a very high level of teaching.

The tuition, resourced and support that came from all staff within the facility was second to none. There is constant updating of information across all trades and the administration support is outstanding.
There is an onus on individuals to expand their knowledge by private study. I would endorse Able Skills without reservation.

Many thanks Paul Morris, Yorkshire

Paul stayed in Able Skills own accommodation for the duration of his training: 16 weeks in total!

Nick Byrne (Tiling Course)

6 Week Tiling Course: June/July 2008

I have just completed the six week tiling course at Able Skills and start work as a tiler on Monday. This was the first time I have tiled and have gained so much from this course i.e. Tiling, tanking formats of tiling diamond, brick, block, on walls and floors. I found that the instructors Max and Terry very helpful throughout the six weeks and thanks to them I have gained a new career in the tiling game I would advise any one starting a new career to join up with Able Skills.

James Carver (Bricklaying Course)

C&G Bricklaying: May/June/July 2008

After leaving the Army I decided that I wanted to retrain to work in the construction industry and I chose Able Skills for Bricklaying.

Able Skills were first rate, looking after all of my needs from Accommodation through to Instruction.
I received excellent tuition from the Instructors who were superb tradesmen and very approachable from day 1. They not only gave me top quality instruction on the City & Guilds course but also made time to give me guidance on projects at home.

After finishing the course I feel more than confident to gain employment within the industry and Able Skills will continue to support me through NVQ if I choose that route.

I want to thank Able Skills for an outstanding course and service and wish them all the best.

Dave Birkin (Tiling Course)

The 6 weeks have flown by since doing the basic tile cutting, moving on to tiling kitchens and bathrooms, walls and floors, tanking out showers, working with a wide range of materials, stone, slate, mosaic, porcelain etc.

The instructors are great, helpful and patient. They tell you what to do and let you get on with it, but are there for any queries or problems, giving you the benefit of their experience.

I would recommend this course and Able Skills to anyone.

Ian Edwards (Tiling Course)

May – June 2008

Having carried out my own home renovation projects including all the wall and floor tiling, on retiring from the police service I decided to become a self employed tiler. I attended an 'Advanced tiling course' with another training establishment to prepare me for the change of career. Having advertised my services and carrying out some tiling contracts it soon became evident that my tiling skills were sadly lacking.

I therefore decided to look round on the internet for another training establishment and after much searching came up with Able Skills based at Dartford. As they were reasonably local to me I went to their base and the 6 week 'Professional tiling course' was explained to me.

I was given a tour of the establishment and was pleasantly surprised to find that the tiling bays were single occupancy. There were plenty of tiles to use and the instructors were friendly and only too pleased to answer any questions that I had. I booked a course there and then.

The course was well put together, the instruction excellent, the facilities first class with plenty of tiles of different types and sizes available for use during the course. The course was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Able Skills to anyone who is thinking of taking a tiling course.

Geoffrey Herschell (Bricklaying Course)

An excellent course with professional instruction. Hands on from day one and some how encourages you to want to build more right from the start. On the final day students get to put their own ideas into practice what a great way to round off a fun and enjoyable week. Thank you Able Skills - keep up the good work.

Paul Beaney (Plastering Course)

I found Able Skills through their website, which was very informative, and gave a clear understanding of the variety of courses available. The plastering course i attended was very well structured, and the instructors experience, skill and knowledge, made the course a very worthwhile step in learning to plaster for me, which i intend to use doing my home improvements. All staff are helpful, and even willing to share their knowledge, during breaks. In my opinion, Able Kkills, merits itself by being very good value for money. A professional centre, that i will definitely be using again, and recommending to my friends.

Jack & Petra Bicknell (Tiling)

We have thoroughly enjoyed the course, it was intensive with out being stressful and we learnt alot more than we expected. The instruction was great more practical skills than theory. We would defiantly recommend this course to anyone. The instructor has many years experience in tiling and was very patient and approachable thru-out. Max shared his practical skills and gave us advice on pricing & purchasing. We are looking forward to using these skills on international voluntary building work.

Phil Ackers (Plumbing/Multi-Skilled Course)

Regardless what you think you already know through your own previous experience, there is always something missing or something you don't know. These courses can be the very foundation of what you are ultimately trying to achieve. Able Skills has put those foundations in place for me though good tuition & good humour.

Bob Hodgson (Multi-Skilled Course)

I'm about to retire after 40 years in the Civil Service, and wanted to improve my existing DIY, and learn some new skills.

I found Able Skills on the Internet and was immediately attracted to the wide range of courses on offer and the cost. Their Web site is worth a look, the photo' gallery gives a really good idea of what each of the courses offer.

I decided to enroll in the multi-skill programme; Bricklaying, Plastering, Plumbing and Tiling, which I thought were really good value for money, and would give me the range of skills I felt I needed.
I can thoroughly recommend all of the courses; the instructors are all very knowledgeable in their trades, extremely helpful and put themselves out to make the week both enjoyable and also a valuable learning experience for every one who attends.

Each of the courses uses vary 'hands-on' approach and within half an hour you are practicing the skills. I had a great time, learnt a great deal and got to meet a lot of new and interesting people.

I'm going to put my newly found skills into practice straight away, helping my son with home improvements, as well as the inevitable very long to do retirement list from my wife.

Thanks Able Skills - when I've consolidated the skills I've learnt, I may be back for a second helping - on the advanced courses!!
