Our aim at Able Skills is to make all training accessible to everyone; this is regardless of whether this is short course training or qualification training.
If you have ongoing commitments throughout the week, Able Skills also offers the Intensive Carpentry course over 2 consecutive week end periods. The course content remains unchanged; we condense 5 days training into your 4 days and lose none of the quality along the way.
These courses are designed to cover basic areas of carpentry however, if there are any additional requirements you have, we will do our best to accommodate you.
The standard of teaching remains the same for all participants of all Carpentry courses as all of our instructors are time served Carpenters but also have the added bonus of having obtained teaching qualifications.
Everyone at this Carpentry Training Centre will have the benefit of having learned Carpentry from someone with years of experience.
These are hands-on, practical courses and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.
To book a course, please call us on 01322 280202 | For more information please Email us.
Courses are held:
Monday to Friday OR Saturday and Sunday
All Course Times are: 08.30am-16.30pm.
Able Skills has their own accommodation available at £20 per night for those of you who are travelling longer distances to train with us.
Our training facilities are fully equipped with all hand and power tools that are required to competently complete each task you are set.
We will explain and demonstrate each tool individually so that you are fully aware of what you need once you start to undertake carpentry work and we also ensure that health & safety is adhered to at all times. This guarantees that you learn carpentry in the correct and safe manner.
We are committed to providing all Able Skills students with the best training, tools and materials available. We want you to leave us having learned everything you wanted to learn about Carpentry and to go away with the skills and the confidence to tackle anything.
Weekend training for the Intensive Carpentry course will cover:
• Use hand tools such as chisels, planes etc.
• Cut basic joints
• Cut and fit dado rails, architraves, skirtings and doorstops
• Erect a stud-wall
• Fit a door lining/frame
• Hang a door
• Fit a lock
If you attend our Carpentry course at weekends but then decide you would like to obtain a City & Guilds qualification, we can also arrange this for you. Please visit City & Guilds 6 week Carpentry course or 8 week Carpentry NVQ page for all of the required units and full award details.
The City & Guilds 6217-02 – Carpentry is also available to those of you who can only train at weekends. You would need to attend for 10 weekends initially, this can sometimes be done on consecutive weekends but we always recommend a break, especially when you are working through the week.
After you have completed 10 weekends, you will need to commit to a 9 day period to complete the larger assessments which complete the award – This can be completed by starting on a Saturday and running 9 days straight to the following Sunday.
Payment options are attached to this training plan. If you have opted for the NVQ version of this award, an additional 5 weekends will be required after the 9 day block to cover the NVQ units.
