Able Skills has structured week end courses to suit the needs of every individual.

Whether you are looking to tile your kitchen, fit a bathroom suite or need to do some plastering, Able Skills can accommodate your every need.

We have re-structured our weekend courses to cater for just about any DIY need, we now provide you with the opportunity to design your own course by mixing subjects and covering them in a 2 day weekend. You can attend for just one weekend if you only need to learn one subject or many more if you have a larger project to cover.

Weekend training can be covered at any time throughout the year and you can choose when you train.

Additionally, if you are undecided about which area of construction you wish to enter, you can use our short weekend courses to help you decide.

Kitchen Fitting Course

Tool use and safe working practice
Setting out
Installation of base and wall units
leveling both vertically and horizontally across all units
Cutting and fixing of worktops using a router and worktop jig. Sink and hob holes etc.
Installation of worktop including fitting of sink and hob.
Measurement, cutting and fixing of plinths, and pelmets
Fixing and leveling of doors.

2 Day Plumbing Course £195 All Inc

Electrical Course

To enable you to be able to safely work on electrical equipment in the home.

You would also be told of the Part P building regulations and what work they can and cannot undertake in the home.

Calculations of cable sizing and typical fault ratings of circuits in the home.

Use of test equipment and safe working practices.

This would include replacing an electrical fitting, socket outlets, control switches and ceiling roses. Replacing the cable, for a single circuit only, where damaged e.g. by fire or rodent damage or impact. (Like for like replacement).

Reaffixing or replacing the enclosures of existing installation components.

Adding lighting points (light fittings and switches) to an existing circuit. (But not in a kitchen or a special location and does not involve a special installation.)

Adding socket outlets and fused spurs to an existing ring or radial circuit.

Installing or upgrading main or supplementary equipotent bonding.

Bricklaying Course

You will learn how to set out building lines.
Be taught brick work and how to ensure your walls are square and vertical.
We will teach you to build a pillar, a pier and a Stretcher Bond wall.
You will learn the different types of bricklaying bonds
Be shown how to do pointing for face work.

Paving Course

How to create a patio with professional help.
How to cut and shape slabs incorporating diamond and curved angle patterns.
How to outline your work with brick pavers, prepare your work base and calculate your centre lines.
Show you different mixing techniques and various pointing finishes (including coloured finishes).
You will be able to build your own patio with a decorative boarder at a fraction of the cost.
