At Able Skills we enjoy the luxury of being able to be open for 7 days every week which in turn allows us to be able to provide everybody with the opportunity to learn a new skill. Those of you who are unavailable to train through the week are given the opportunity to train at weekends to learn any aspect of Painting & Decorating.

Both our Intensive and Advanced Painting and Decorating courses are available over 2 consecutive weekend periods (per course) and will cover every aspect of the week long courses as possible.

These courses are suitable to anyone looking to try their hand at Painting and Decorating and who want to learn new skills in the correct manner.

We have simulated areas where you will be taught these new skills and where you will pick up very useful tips of the trade. Whether you are looking to learn for your own personal projects or you are considering a change of career, Able Skills weekend training options give you the opportunity to decide if Painting and Decorating is for you.

Painting & Decorating Progression and Qualifications

At Able Skills, we also deliver training and assessment for qualifications at weekends:

• 4 Week C&G Painting & Decorating Qualification
• 5 Week C&G Painting & Decorating Qualification
• 6 Week Level 2 C&G Painting & Decorating Qualification
• 7 Week Level 2 C&G Painting & Decorating Qualification or even an
• 8 Week Level 3 Painting & Decorating Qualification

These are hands-on, practical courses and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout the course. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.

The content for the weekend courses could differ slightly from the 5 day course due to having less time available however, we will aim to cover:

Weekend training for the Intensive Painting & Decorating course will cover:

• Health and Safety, PPE and safe working practices
• Correct use of tools and equipment used in this trade
• Preparation of new and old surfaces ready for painting
• Repairing imperfections in walls and wood ready for painting
• Application of water based products such as primers, undercoats, emulsion and eggshell using brushes and rollers
• Application of oil based products
• Cutting around obstructions, openings, fittings such as radiators, windows, sockets and switches
• How to use a roller effectively
• Cutting, pasting and hanging wallpaper
  
  

Weekend training for the Advanced Painting & Decorating course will cover:

• Accessing for painting & decorating such as erecting a small tower scaffold and detailed explanation of ladder safety
• Detailed underpinning knowledge of Health and Safety: Working at heights regulations
• Preparation of a full room area for a patterned wallpaper scheme
• Cross lining: Hanging lining paper horizontally as a base layer for wallpaper
• Application of emulsion and oil based paints for a pattern papered room
• Application of emulsion and oil based paints for a painted wallpaper scheme (anaglyptic, blown vinyl and wood engrained papers)
• Paper hanging: Hanging 2 pattern papers to a full room area:- one with set pattern design, one with drop pattern design
• Pastes and sizing
• New plaster substrates
• Dry lined substrates
• Surface defects: causes and cures
• Paper hanging defects: causes and cures

I heard about Able Skills though word and mouth and also on a search of the internet. I got told about Able Skills and how good it was there and also when I phoned up to book my course they understood how the army even better than me. It is close to my home and how easy it was to book and also that they have accommodation for only £20 a night is very reasonable. I am on my 2^nd week of an 8 week painting and decorating course and I have learnt so much already even though i have had previous experience, the knowledge that mark passes on is second to none, very professional and knowledgeable and he is always aware at what stage you are at within your NVQ. How he keeps up is unbelievable. He is an excellent instructor his explanations and demonstrations are great and gives you exactly what you require and more about the industry outside in the real world.
