Weekend Wallpapering Courses

From the moment Able Skills started to offer Painting & Decorating training, the one question that has frequently been asked is ‘Can you teach me to hang paper?’

It has become apparent that this area of decorating seems to be the hardest to master and we have found that even qualified decorators have trouble in this area, usually because they have mostly concentrated on preparation and painting for the majority of their career.

Fashion trends come and go and at present, papering an area of your room at home is the thing to do and hence, an increase in interest in this area. As such, we have devised a 2 day course to be completed at the weekend which will concentrate purely on Wallpapering.

Able Skills offers this course to enable you to develop your skills so that you can undertake Wallpapering work competently and professionally whether you are learning personally or as part of your daily work.

We aim to cover basic aspects of Wallpapering from understanding tool usage to storage of materials right through to the correct application of various papering products. 

Whether you are looking to undertake some Wallpapering at home or if you are a Painter who doesn’t hang paper frequently, this intensive course in Wallpapering will give you the training you need to produce a professional finish.

Over the course of this wallpapering weekend we will explain and demonstrate

•    Various types of wallpaper, pastes and their uses
•    How to measure the area
•    How to cut various types of wallpaper
•    How to get it straight! (most important of all)
•    Correct methods for mixing and applying paste
•    Correct and safe use of pasting tables

You will hang all kinds of papers to varying heights and be taught how to trim the paper with shears, a knife and a straight edge. You will also be hanging paper in a complete room so you will be shown how to overcome obstacles like switch plates and sockets and you will learn how to paper around windows and doors.

This weekend wallpapering course option will definitely give you the confidence to produce the kind of work you can be proud of.

In the subject of Painting & Decorating, we can provide training for beginners with a 5 day Intensive course, more in depth training on a 5 day advanced course and full City & Guilds Certificate in 5 weeks or NVQ training in 7.

For those already in the industry or moving into the industry, we are also an NVQ assessment centre so can help you gain that all important level 2 qualification via EWPA route or OSAT

In addition to this, we offer Specialist Finish courses which are available for those of you who would like to be able to produce something slightly more decorative.

This is a hands-on, practical course, it is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools, materials and essential PPE are provided throughout your training time at Able Skills.
