Weekend Gas Courses

Able Skills CITB Approved ACS Gas Training and Assessment Centre is now open and available at weekends for those of you who have ongoing commitments throughout the week.

The option to train or have assessments or reassessments at weekends may particularly suit existing and experienced engineers who are unable to take any time out during the week due to work commitments or similar.

If you are working within or returning to the Gas industry, Able Skills has flexible weekend training/assessment options for you to consider.

Our qualified team of gas trainers and assessors will provide guidance, support and assistance in a realistic environment to see you through your training and assessment process to enable you to enter or continue to work safely and legally within the gas industry as laid down by the ACS scheme.

Able Skills can offer a wide range of training and assessment to the latest government guidelines in our purpose built gas workshops and gas training centres.

Training and Revision

We are aware that every candidate who approaches Able Skills Gas Centre is different. Some have major training needs, some have minor training needs and some may feel that they have no training needs at all but with legislation ever changing, we have built training/revision into our fees to ensure that safety and standards are maintained.

Every Gas Installer has different needs or different history and experience so please feel free to call us so that we can fully understand your Gas Assessment and possible training requirements to enable us to provide a more accurate costing for you.

We can cater for all requests and will happily put together a weekend training plan for you.

If you feel that you would like to receive training to start working within the gas industry or you are ready for an initial assessment or are due reassessment, please give us a call so we can help you to complete the process.

Looking to enter the Gas Industry?

If you are not currently working within the Industry but are looking to move in that direction, Able Skills has finely tuned training programmes in place.

We pride ourselves in the structured programmes we have devised and the training we provide and we feel that what we have in place is an excellent introduction to the Gas Industry and the requirements of the ACS scheme.

Stage 1

CITB Intermediate Gas Certificate

This Weekend Gas course is essential training and assessment for all candidates looking to gain access to the Gas Industry. The training course will require 8 weekends of attendance on a 2 weekend on and 2 weekend off basis.

Stage 2

Work based Competence and Gas Portfolios

Following completion of your 8 weekends of Gas training, exams and assessments you will be deemed competent to undertake supervised gas work.

The next step towards Gas Safe Registration will be to demonstrate your competence in the work place and your aim will be to find work alongside a Gas Safe Registered Engineer who will act as your on site recorder/verifier, helping you to build a portfolio to act as evidence and to prove your competence and safety working with Gas.

If you are unable to arrange a work placement, Able Skills can place you with our sister company: Able On-Time Services and you can complete the portfolio under the guidance of someone who has been through this very same process with Able Skills before being employed by On-Time Services.

Stage 3

CCN1 Simulation

Once your portfolio has been completed to the standards required by Able Skills Gas Assessors, candidates will be required to undertake a mandatory practical and written assessment which will simulate CCN1 plus 1 appliance in preparation for assessment for CCN1.

Once this has been successfully completed, you will receive your Intermediate Gas Certificate

Stage 4

ACS / Core Domestic Gas Safety including Appliances

CCN1 will need to be completed before you are eligible for Gas Safe Register registration and this is a requirement for all operatives involved in the installation, maintenance and servicing of domestic gas appliances and pipe-work installations.

Training Packages at Able Skills

Able Skills can arrange all of these processes for you and they are available as packages, discounted and/or with the provision of a starter toolkit.

For those of you with no experience within the plumbing, gas or related industry, please visit New Entrant Complete Gas Training Package

For those of you with a background or experience of pipework related skills, please visit New Entrant Gas Training

Once you have completed the whole process, you will be eligible for Gas Safe Registration

If you have not attended Able Skills before, we will need to see evidence that you have undertaken training which is recognised by Gas Safe Register as a managed learning programme and our Assessors will need to be satisfied that your portfolio of evidence meets their requirements.

Once we have established this, we can then accept you for initial CCN1 Assessment.

If you have undertaken the required training and ‘on the job' evidence gathering and are now ready for assessment:

CORGI > Gas Safe Register

The way Gas Installers register has changed and Corgi has been replaced by Gas Safe Register as of 1 April 2009. It is now the official industry stamp for gas safety.

The Health and Safety Executive, who is responsible for regulating gas safety in Great Britain, oversees Gas Safe Register.

The change was brought about to provide enhanced levels of service and clearly written rules of registration. There are new services and benefits designed to improve the registration scheme and promote gas safety.

Please visit www.gassaferegister.co.uk for details of how the changes affect new and existing Gas Operatives.
