Wiring Regulations and Inspection & Testing Courses
Additional Qualification Requirements for Existing Electricians and Domestic Installers
If you are looking to move forward within the Domestic Installer industry or as an Electrician, it is important that you remain up to date with all regulations and that you achieve the qualifications set by the industry.
We have been delivering Domestic and Commercial Electrical qualifications for some time now and we are frequently aware of the fact that not everyone is clear on what is required to progress or more importantly, which qualification comes first and what each one will allow you to do.
Whether you are working as a Domestic Installer or as an Electrician, the requirements to progress are similar to a certain stage.
We have put together this discounted training package for those of you who are currently working within the respective industries but who are lacking in fulfilling the requirements set.
This Electrical training and assessment package consists of one level 2 qualifications and two at level 3 and will ensure that you meet the standards required within the role you play and will enable you to progress to levels beyond that which you currently undertake.
This will require 13 days of training and assessment, a mix of practical and theory training culminating in On Line Multiple Choice exams, Practical Assessments and for good measure, a closed book written exam.
Electrical Course 1:
City & Guilds 2382-10 – Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installation (BS 7671: January 2008)
The aim of this 3 day electrical training course is to ensure that delegates comply with the format, content and applications of the requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671: June 2008) 17th Edition Regulations.
This course involves no practical work, it introduces the regulations and covers their application through explanation and worked examples. The purposes, structure and content of the updated IEE On-Site Guide will also be covered and delegates will appreciate how to use this in support of the BS 7671.
Throughout this electrical course delegates will be prepared to sit the City and Guild 2382 multiple choice examination leading to the award of the Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2008, for successful candidates.
A basic understanding of electrical principles is essential in order to be successful on this course which is fast becoming industry standard.
As this is an open book exam, it is essential that you hold a copy of BS:7671 Requirements for Electrical Installation (IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition) and you may also find Exam Success IEE Wiring Regulations 2382-10 to be a useful addition.

Electrical Course 2:
City & Guilds 2392-10 – Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification
This qualification has been designed to help less experienced candidates obtain inspection, testing and initial verification experience before progressing onto the 2391-10 Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.
Research has indicated the candidates that have achieved the 2392-10 will have on average, greater success in achieving the 2391.
This particular Electrical course is also suitable for practicing electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or who require some updated training before going onto achieve the City & Guilds 2391-10.
Testing and Inspection is often a difficult subject for even the most experienced of electricians. This 2392-10 Inspection and testing qualification, not only helps you to fully understand testing, it also provides you with a qualification and certificate to show you are competent to undertake the work. It's a very essential skill and qualification to have for anyone undertaking electrical installations.
Electrical Course 2: Content
During the course candidates learn how to carry out inspection and testing using various training rigs simulating real electrical installations, and are then given the opportunity to perform the inspection, testing and verification on an individual basis. All underpinning knowledge requirements will be supported by frequent practical activities.
Assessment will be by:
- A multiple choice online test covering the underpinning knowledge relating to the fundamental inspection, testing and initial verification of electrical installations, as required by BS 7671:2008
AND
- A practical test covering the range of inspections, tests, verification and recording of information and results for a new electrical installation, as required by BS 7671:2008
Electrical Course 3:
City & Guilds 2391-10 – Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations to BS7671
This four day training course covers the requirements of BS 7671 for inspection, testing and certification and is designed to prepare candidates for both the written and practical examinations. Candidates gain the skills and knowledge necessary to actually perform the inspection and testing procedures and are able to practice on purpose-built training rigs which simulate electrical installations.
The written exam dates for this qualification are set by City & Guilds and we aim to provide this training as close to the exam date as is possible. Following this 4 days of intensive training, you will return to the training centre to undertake a written exam (2.5 hours:closed book).
The full certificate for this qualification cannot be awarded until the practical assessment (4 hours) has been completed and this will be arranged once your written examination results are known to us. This qualification will not provide unit accreditation if you are successful in only one exam/assessment so Able Skills practice is to arrange the practical assessment upon notification of successful completion of the written examination.
Candidates are provided with course notes to guide them. We also recommend that you obtain a copy of The Electricians Guide to Inspection and Testing, the IEE Inspection and Testing Guidance Note 3, Wiring Regulations (17th Edition) and you may also wish to consider Exam Success: Inspection and Testing 2391-10.
In addition, City & Guilds can provide details of The Chief Examiners’ Report. This has been introduced as a result of feedback from centres, to give them guidance in preparing candidates for the written examination but this may also be of use to those of you who have previously sat and been unsuccessful in the written aspect of this qualification.
On this page you will find the reports written by City & Guilds Chief Examiners, the first being for the December 2006 exam:
