Firstly, we would like to say that we are a City & Guilds Approved centre, meaning we are authorised to deliver and assess City & Guilds qualifications. There has been some news recently of a training centre in Luton promising industry-recgonised qualifications through their so called Home-Study courses, however, this organisation has never been approved by City & Guilds and has left people without the accreditation they deserve. Here at Able Skills we have been teaching our students comprehensive training courses in all types of trades for almost 20-years! We have a great reputation and we are proud of the work that we do helping people realise their goals and enter the industry of their choice with legitimate qualifications and high-quality training behind them. Today, we want to talk about how our courses work and how to kick-start a career the right way...
Home-Study courses done the right way!
How do our courses work?
First, we are not an online training centre. We have worked very hard during this pandemic to continue to teach our students here at our centre. We have students working hard, learning new skills and developing their hands-on practical skills on a daily basis. We are also completely transparent and encourage anybody interested in training with us to pay us a visit in person, you are welcome to visit us unannounced. We also want to note that we will never send somebody to your front door. We do not hire a sales team and only encourage those genuinely interested in learning a trade to contact us. Come and talk to a member of staff in person, ask any questions you have and even take a guided tour around our centre so that you can see for yourself the great work that we do here preparing aspiring traders for new, successful careers and helping experienced workers gain that next level of knowledge!
Our Home-Study courses work by you learning the theory side of the qualification at home before attending our centre to learn the practical side and complete the relevant assessments. We will send you our specially crafted 'Home-Study Pack' that includes all of the theory information as well as example questions for you to test yourself with. We also send you City & Guilds test books that support the information within the pack. Additionally, we will provide you with access to the online learning platform Smartscreen as an alternative source of information and finally we will supply you with contact details for one of our instructors in case you require some additional guidance as you study.

Once you feel confident that you have absorbed everything you have been provided with, you'll contact us to book hands-on practical training. The amount of time will depend on the course you are taking. We offer a few Home-Study options including our Home-Study Level 2 Plumbing course, Level 2 Electrical and Level 3 Electrical courses. Once you attend, you will not need to bring anything, all the tools and equipment is provided for you. You'll be taught by our talented instructors who are absolute experts in their respective trades. They have years of experience both teaching here at our centre and working out in the industry themselves. They'll help you gain the practical skills and ability you will need to become a professional. The courses are completed through practical assessments and online exams. We would never let you take online exams at home. It is important that assessments are monitored and invigilated for quality control. Remember, we have a full-range of courses and can offer everything you need from NVQs to AM2 assessments done the right way!

Finally, we want to say that we are very flexible when it comes to paying for your training. We will never tie you in to any sort of finance scheme proposed by the centre that recently appeared in the news. Instead we allow our students to pay as they train. We do require a deposit up-front to secure your place on the course as our training options are very popular, however, beyond that once you attend the course you can pay for each week that you attend in person in our office. For example, our Home-Study Level 2 Plumbing course is £2500.00 including VAT. You start by paying the £500 to receive the home study manual and then when you attend, the balance is paid in instalments. £500 for each week of attendance.
