Everybody is constantly on some form of social media. However, it can be difficult to know how to make the most of a social platform for your business. Social media is one of the best advertising tools that you can utilise as a tradesperson. It’s cost-effective and cheaper to use than traditional marketing tools and even offers greater impact and reach!

Knowing how to get the right engagement can take you to the next level and drastically improve your businesses activity and earnings. The problem is 85% of tradespeople don't know what they should be posting and how to use social media effectively.

Why is it important?

Having a social presence is hugely important for the success of your business. No matter what type of work you do. Tradespeople can benefit hugely from having an identity online. Once you’re all set up, use your platform, to interact with customers and present what you have to offer...

You could share content that’s relevant to your trade as well as updates about your business. You could share news stories about DIY disasters, pictures of projects you’ve completed, and updates about any special deals or new services you’re offering!

Reputation & Feedback:

Taking online reviews is massively important in this day and age. Did you know that businesses with positive scores on review sites can earn up to 58% more revenue. Feedback is a great way to represent your reputation, ability and quality of work through the voice of your customers.

Over 20 million business reviews are posted on Google every day and they can have a huge impact on a company’s performance.

You can get feedback in a few different ways. One of the most useful is through Google. This is because most people looking for a tradesperson will Google something like 'Electrician in my area' and having your reviews proudly displayed on Google will make it easier for customers to access feedback on your work.

To set this up, you will need a 'Google My Business' account. Once you make an account at business.google.com you'll first want to fill in some basic information like your company name, what you do and maybe a company logo.

Now people can leave reviews for your company. Once they search for your company name there will be a column on the Google that shows information about your business and a space to write feedback.

If you would like to send a direct link to a customer or email people a link to write reviews - Login to your account, select Home and there is a button on the left hand side to share the review form.

About to become self-employed?

If you are thinking about becoming self-employed in your trade then this topic is even more vital. Social media and generally having a footprint online is much more effective than traditional methods of advertising. In fact, 47% of those that do have an online presence say that they see a direct relationship between what they post online and the amount of work they get.

Do some research!

So, you're replying to customer reviews, talking to customers through social media but don't know what to post? You should be posting work that you have done, relevant information, news surrounding your trade, special offers and things like  progress shots of your latest projects.

If you are really unsure of what to post and how to present it, then take a look at your competitors. What they are posting and how often. Research also means you should keep an eye on what people are posting. For example, if you spot somebody on Twitter looking for a Tradesperson or complaining that they’ve got a problem with their property...Why not reply with a friendly offer of help?

Check your social accounts regularly so that you can reply promptly to any customer service queries that come through. It's a good idea to reply to reviews and people on social media as it shows that you are easy to reach and trustworthy.
