Opportunities for electricians after lockdown!

We have been back here at the centre providing electrician courses for around 5-weeks. There are always opportunities for electricians, it is a trade that is always in demand, however, today we are going to take a look at some things that should interest electricians in the new year. Firstly, the government has said it will encourage increased use of small and medium-sized contractors on public sector projects, providing new opportunities for many electrical contractors. This includes The Green Deal helps homeowners make energy-saving improvements at a reduced rate. Electrical contractors could develop their skills and knowledge of heating and lighting control techniques in order to provide energy efficiency services, or become Green Deal or Green Energy installers, replacing other trades. As well as installation services there will be opportunities for electrical contractors to become Green Deal Assessors.

This graph released by the NICEIC outlines the market changes over the last 11 years and a projection in 2021.

As you can see it is expected that there will be a small, negative change in the electrical contracting market, however, this is a guess at this point and there will still be plenty of work for qualified professionals. There is still a shortage of skilled workers in the electrical industry, meaning that those with the right qualifications are earning more than ever as the amount of work outweighs the number of electricians. Below you can see the expected changes on the construction industry side of things. It is projected that there will be a dip in new construction projects but a slight increase in the maintenance, repair and improvements of existing buildings.
