Carpentry, Construction and the World Fair: UAE Expo 2020

The Dubai Expo 2020 is the world's fair. The best-known 'first World Expo' was held in The Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, United Kingdom, in 1851, under the title "Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations".

It is a chance for each country to show off their advances in works of industry and architecture. Each country builds a structure or pavilion that is representative of its country. Somewhat an art piece that is a reflection of each places culture, history and future.

Hundreds of pavilions will feature interactive exhibits, live entertainment, memorable meeting spaces, hangouts and plenty more! Each Expo has a theme that will shape the overall message of the world fair, this time is no diffrent and the theme for 2020 is "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future".

The UK Pavilion:

UK firms McLaren Construction and branding agency Pico Group are to build the UK’s pavilion which is a 3,417 sqm, two-level structure. The development will feature a 20m-tall cone made from protruding slats across multiple rows to create a jutted circular facade. The building will be made from cross-laminated timber on a concrete structure and will make use of off-site manufacturing.

This structure is hopefully going to represent the UK in a good light and present the best of British creativity, innovation and expertise! The UK in an established nation with a deep, long history, we have a determined construction workforce, that will be working on such an important and exciting project.
