During the pandemic there has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding employment. Many millions of people around the country working in industries like hospitality, retail, tourism and so on have found themselves on furlough schemes due to the inability to continue working. However, people in the trade industry have continued to work and are even seeing an increased demand for domestic services from Gas Engineers, Electricians and Plumbers simply due to the fact that people are spending more time at home and therefore more often require domestic maintenance and services. If you have never considered a role as a Plumber, today we are going to outline why we believe there has never been a better time to switch paths and how, with our help, you can get started learning from the comfort of your own home!

Why should I become a Plumber?

Firstly, the industry needs you! Plumbing has always been a lucrative trade, being one of the highest earning skills, however, now more than ever there is a demand for new skilled workers. There is currently a skills gap, which means that there is more work out there than there are competent and qualified traders. As a result of this those with the skills are being paid a premium for their services. The average plumber here in the UK currently earns around £33,000 per year! This will obviously depend on your location and experience and can increase dramatically as you become more experienced in the role.

Gaining trade skills means you have a job for life! Trades like this are not going anywhere. Another reason is after you complete your training in plumbing and gain some experience you can be your own boss, choose the hours you want to work and decide to work for yourself. Arguably the most important reason is once you are trained and qualified you become a plumber for life unlike most jobs this is a career path.

Economic downturns rarely impact the trades. This is incredibly beneficial for those in the trade. This point couldn't be more blatantly obvious during such strange times, throughout the pandemic plumbers have continued and even thrived during lockdown. This is a testament to how resilient and essential the role is to our way of life. You will no longer need to worry about the economy being in recession as your job will always be in demand- Giving you job stability and security.

Plumbing can often be an exciting and varied job, where you meet a lot of people, work on a range of projects, and get a sense of satisfaction when you figure out how to fix the thing you've been tasked with mending. There are so many projects happening in the country you will have a great variety in choices, in fact, even if you plan to focus on domestic work there are big projects across England, including the government’s plan of building 300,000 houses a year, overall there is an increased demand for people with plumbing qualifications and this downtime is the perfect chance to start working towards a new, successful career!
