Awarding Body City & Guilds

City & Guilds 18th Edition Update

Overview

If you have passed your 17th edition (C&G 2382-15) since the last amendment was published then you can take this shorter 1 day 18th edition update course. Please be aware that there is no ‘short exam’ to update your 17th Edition to 18th Edition - you will still be required to sit the full 60 question, 2 hour exam.

If you do not hold the 17th edition with the last amendment then you will want to take our 3 day 18th edition course.

What You’ll Learn

This one-day course will cover the changes introduced by the 18th Edition followed by practice questions and then the full 60-question 2382-18 on-line exam.  Please note that this exam covers the entirety of BS 7671: 2018 and not just the up-dates.

Some of the changes to be expected in the 18th Edition are as follows:

  • A new approach to main protective bonding
  • Changes to the rules on disconnection times and RCD protection for socket outlets
  • The reintroduction of Chapter 46 – Isolation and Switching
  • An update on surge protection, including a new lightning protection zone concept.
  • A new Appendix dealing with energy efficiency, and
  • Many updates and additions in all areas of the document.

How You’ll Learn

This course is entirely classroom based, it introduces wiring regulations and covers their application through explanation and worked examples. We will ensure that you are fully prepared for the City & Guilds 18th Edition test which is a 2-hour multiple-choice, on-line examination. The exam is 'open book', meaning that you will be able to look up wiring regulations and refer to the 18th edition book during the exam process.

Courses Open To You After

From this course you can move on to Inspection and Testing qualifications: C&G 2391-52 (Level 3 Award in Inspection and Testing) or maybe PAT Testing. If you do not hold any electrical qualifications and would like to work towards becoming a fully qualified Electrician to work in Commercial/Industrial premises, the C&G 2365 at level 2 would be a very good starting point for you.

Additional Info

The aim of the 18th Edition Update Course is to update your existing knowledge of the Wiring Regulations and inform you of the changes made from the 17th Edition Amendment 3 to the 18th Edition. This 18th Edition qualification will be essential if you want to join a Government Approved Part P Scheme Provider. Every installation from January 2019 will need to be designed in line with the 18th Edition wiring regulations. As this is an open book exam, you will need to ensure that you have a copy of the up to date IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition BS7671 2018. We will need to see your existing C&G 2382-15 certificate prior to you booking this ‘update’ course.

If you do not hold the 17th edition with the last amendment then you will want to take our 3 day 18th edition course.
