What You’ll Learn

The AM2 test is appropriate to:

  • Apprentices approaching the end of their training for the JIB Apprentice Training Scheme and the Electrical Installation Modern Apprenticeship.
  • Others wishing to accredit practical experience.

The test is an industry recognised trade test that is controlled by the National Electrotechnical Training (NET) Organisation in conjunction with the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and Summit Skills who are currently the Sector Skills Council for the Electrotechnical Industry.

AM2 is a practical assessment with a short online component, taken over 16.5 hours (2.5 days).

During this time candidates undertake a series of timed tasks in specially equipped booths containing typical electrical installation wiring systems. The exercises include installation, inspection and testing and fault-finding and the work must comply with the current IEE Wiring Regulations and be carried out in line with Health & Safety best practice.
