What You’ll Learn

This City & Guilds 2396 - Level 4 qualification in Design of Electrical Installations helps to develop the essential, up-to-date knowledge and techniques needed to professionally design and install or inspect and test electrical systems. The ability to design is required before new installations are constructed and also when additions or alterations to existing installations are required. This Award is ideal for qualified electricians wishing to expand or update their professional knowledge and skills and who are working with minimal or no supervision. It is intended for personnel in electrical contracting companies who have responsibility for the quality of the design, specification, installation and testing process. It addresses, in particular, the implications of the Wiring Regulations for Electrical Installations BS7671:2008 (2011). It allows candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required designing and scoping electrical installations. This qualification demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you need, such as designing and installing electrical systems, appropriate legislation and verifying installations.

How You’ll Learn

Theory and practical sessions and examples of how electrical installations should be designed are given. The course consists of several design exercises for the candidates to carry out, which evaluate and explore the process of design in terms of general characteristics, protection for safety, and selection and erection. The assessment criteria are carried over two units through an assignment and a written exam. This written test is open book and you are permitted to take the following documents into the exam: BS 7671 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, On-site Guide and Guidance Notes 1 and 3.

Before undertaking this qualification, if you do not hold the previously recognised C&G 2391 then you should seriously consider undertaking the C&G 2394 - Level 3 Award in Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations  and/or C&G 2395 - Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations. We advise that you have industry experience and it is also strongly recommended that you have achieved either the C&G 2382 - Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2008(2011) or similar qualifications where you have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the 17th Edition in order to ensure that you have every opportunity of achieving this level 4 qualification. We may also consider undertaking a short telephone or personal informal discussion with you to ensure that you are aware of what will be required to achieve this qualification and the time frames involved.

Duration & Cost

This is a 5 day course. The cost is £895 including VAT. A £300 deposit will secure a booking and the balance can be paid on the start date.
