What You’ll Learn
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 places a legal accountability on employers, employees and self-employed persons to comply with the provisions of the regulations and to take reasonable and practical steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of electrical equipment - this requires a regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing. Every item of electrical equipment in a commercial environment is required to be tested to ensure that it is safe to use and has been marked safe. A competent person must inspect the installation regularly in any public building or a place that people work. The PAT Testing scheme is designed to ensure that those responsible for the maintenance and/or practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment are familiar with the use of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
C&G 2377-22 - Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment is aimed at those undertaking practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment and C&G 2377-32 - Management Requirements for the Maintenance of Electrical Equipment, allows those with an administrative responsibility for the testing and inspection of electrical equipment to gain a qualification suitable to their job role.
How You’ll Learn
The course will cover electrical safety regulations, role and responsibilities, insulation and earthing, classification of appliances, preliminary inspection, test precautions, using a portable appliance tester, essential and optional tests, labeling tests, reporting and recording results and implementing a test programme. PAT Testing courses are predominantly theory based as there are on-line exams to complete however there is also a practical assessment associated with the C&G 2377-22 award so practical training with the aid of PAT testing equipment will be undertaken.
Courses Open To You After
If you only opt to undertake the C&G 2377-22 - Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment, you may also want to consider adding the Management Requirements for the Maintenance of Electrical Equipment at a later date.
These courses are available in 2 days for those with Electrical backgrounds however, if you have limited or no electrical background, we also offer a 3 day option whereby you will be given training to achieve a basic electrical understanding to prepare you for moving on to PAT testing training. Both on-line exams are open-book so it is essential that you have a copy of IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. We also recommend this as pre-course reading material.
