The Duration of the course will depend on which subjects you choose:

Full Time - 6 weeks (Mon - Fri)

£2,500.00 including vat A £500 deposit will secure a booking and the balance can be paid in 6 weekly instalments of £333.34

Full Time - 7 weeks (Mon - Fri)

£2,895.00 including vat A £500 deposit will secure a booking and the balance can be paid in 7 weekly instalments of £342.14

Full Time - 8 weeks (Mon - Fri)

£3,290.00 including vat A £500 deposit will secure a booking and the balance can be paid in 8 weekly instalments of £348.75

Full Time - 9 weeks (Mon - Fri)

£3,685.00 including vat A £500 deposit will secure a booking and the balance can be paid in 9 weekly instalments of £353.89

City & Guilds 6219-07

Able Skills can offer you the opportunity to obtain a City & Guilds Diploma (6219-07) covering 3 construction subjects, enabling you to become a City & Guilds qualified Multi Skilled tradesman. This qualification will confirm competence in each of the chosen subjects and successful candidates will receive a City & Guilds Diploma certificate and will also have a completed portfolio to demonstrate to potential employers their capability in the tasks undertaken. To achieve the full Diploma, candidates must successfully complete all units from three of the following occupations.

You will be able to choose 3 subjects from

  • Plumbing 
  • Bricklaying 
  • Plastering
  • Tiling
  • Carpentry 
  • Painting & Decorating

You will work through a portfolio covering the required units in each of your chosen subjects and you will receive training and assessment on those units. Each centre is fully equipped with all of the tools and materials you will need to complete this award as well as access to reference books to aid you with any written portfolio requirements. With the current facilities we have available to us, we can comfortably cater for all of the above construction trades and more. Whether your interest is in Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plastering, Tiling, Plumbing or Painting & Decorating, our facilities will exceed your expectations.

Whichever 3 subjects you choose, you can be guaranteed that the emphasis is placed on practical experience and so these courses are entirely hands on.

For the award of a Diploma, candidates must successfully complete units from three of the following occupations.

Carpentry Training and Assessment (3 weeks/15 days) will be provided in:

  • Health & Safety and PPE
  • Use of hand tools such as chisels, planes etc.
  • Cutting basic joints
  • Cutting and fitting architraves and skirtings
  • Fitting locks and latches

Plumbing Training (2 weeks/10 days) will be provided in:

  • Health & Safety and PPE
  • Plumbing systems and fittings 
  • Soldering techniques 
  • Jointing, bending and pressure testing copper tube 
  • Plumbing pipe work 
  • Copper pipe work skills 
  • Valves and taps
  • Plastic Tube installation 
  • Bathroom installation 

Bricklaying Training (2 weeks/10 days) will be provided in:

  • Health & Safety and PPE 
  • How to set out building lines 
  • How to ensure your walls are square and vertical
  • Build a corner, a pyramid and a pier
  • How to do pointing for face work
  • Demonstrate how to put in a damp course
  • Bricklaying bonds: English Bond - Flemish Bond - Stretcher Bond

Plastering Training (3 weeks/15 days) will be provided in:

  • Health & Safety and PPE
  • Identify different plasterboards/materials
  • Measures, cut and fix plasterboards to specification
  • Prepare background surfaces
  • To cut and fix angle beads around windows and reveals
  • Apply a scratch coat
  • Scratch key the surface
  • Form vertical and horizontal screeds
  • Apply render coat to given specification
  • Rule off to form flat, straight wall
  • Finish render to a flat consistent surface
  • Prepare various background surfaces to receive plaster
  • To mix plastering materials
  • To skim finish walls ensuring a flat finished surface

Tiling Training (3 weeks/15 days) will be provided in:

  • Setting out your tiling work in standard bond
  • Explaining all the different adhesives used for different surfaces 
  • Demonstrating all the tools required
  • Cutting tiles using wet tile cutters, dry tile cutters and tile snips
  • How to cut around windows and reveals
  • How to cope with tiling difficult areas such as uneven walls 
  • How to tile angled ceilings and socket areas
  • How to tile splash-backs
  • How to plan and tile in diamond pattern
  • Tiling of floor areas
  • How to grout wall and floor surfaces

Painting & Decorating Training: (2 weeks/10 days) will be provided in:

  • Health & Safety and PPE
  • Correct use of tools and equipment used in this trade
  • Preparation of surfaces ready for painting
  • Repairing imperfections in walls and wood ready for painting
  • Application of water based products such as primers, undercoats, emulsion and eggshell using  brushes and rollers
  • Application of oil based products
  • Cutting around obstructions, openings, fittings such as radiators, windows, sockets and switches following a sequence for painting a panelled door.
  • How to use a roller effectively
  • Cutting, pasting and hanging wallpaper around internal corners and external corners
  • Cutting wallpaper around sockets and switches
  • Replumbing walls

Each of the above listed are subject to C&G assessment processes and are then allocated credits. We have structured this training programme to cover the most commonly required skills so that successful completion of any 3 subjects from the 6 listed will provide in excess of 37 credits which equate to the award of a City & Guilds Diploma. This in itself could prove to be your passport into employment or self-employment as a Multi-skilled trades person.

As these courses are entirely hands on, you can gain a great insight into what each core subject entails and at a later stage you could consider specialising in a particular area. We will ensure that we exceed the requirements of the qualification to ensure that you are given the opportunity to undertake a broad range of practical activities.

Whichever 3 subjects you choose, you can be guaranteed that the emphasis is placed on practical experience and so these courses are entirely hands on; It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period. Due to the facilities and staff available at Able Skills, we are able to offer flexibility with this award. We do not require you to attend for a consecutive period of 6 weeks but we do require that each subject is covered in blocks of 2 weeks or appropriately planned weekends. This is to ensure consistency and will enhance the learning process.

Dependent upon your choice, we can look at what you have already achieved with a view to mapping training or the achieved units over to potentially reduce time and cost for you.

Location

All of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.

We are open Mon - Fri and 2 weekends per month for training and visitors so if you would like to find out more about this course or about Able Skills, please feel free to pop in, no appointment necessary.
