For anyone looking to undertake electrical work in a domestic environment or just to improve their electrical skill set, Able Skills Part P courses are always a very popular choice.

What is Part P?

Part P is a part of the building regulations that refers to electrical safety in the home. So, for any electrician, it’s a fundamental part of their core knowledge. It’s worth remembering that the regulations are slightly different for commercial work. However, most electricians at some point will be required to carry out work in a domestic setting, so it’s very useful training to take.

How to certify your work

There are three ways you can certify new circuits, consumer units and work in special locations. These are via building control, a registered third party or self-certification by a registered competent person. Our Part P course in London will give you a thorough grounding in each of these approaches.

The building control route involves supplying completed electrical installation certificates and evidence of your qualifications. If no further testing is required they can supply the Part P certificate. Via a third party you can have your work certified by a domestic installer registered to assess the work of others. They then provide the Part P. The third method is to join a scheme like the NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA so that you can self-certificate.
