Business secretary Vince Cable has highlighted the need for people to be trained to find work in the aerospace industry, which could involve signing up to electrical courses.

He made a speech at the Farnborough International Airshow and drew attention to the breadth of skills needed within the sector.

In his view, British workers need to ensure they are well trained – which could involve the need for electrical courses – in order to keep the country at the forefront in this area or research and technology.

"This government working together with industry will support the sector by delivering the right skills where they are needed most," Mr Cable explained.

The state official went on to say that he intends to commit funding to the sector and hopes to attract a generation of talented young workers to apprenticeship programmes.

Farnborough International Airshow also saw the launch of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, making it a significant occasion on the British aerospace calendar.
